I ran across this in Mick's mail. Suffice to say I was extremely happy and relieved to hear it. It is a classic example of the telephone game. Someone says something and someone takes it and runs away with it in order to create a headline. Aside from finding some of what was written amusing, it makes prefect sense what was brought up. Why try to fix an offense that set franchise records over even what the 90's teams set? Why try to fix a runningback position that does not need to be fixed when there are other needs to be addressed? Aside from that, it is now realized that none of this talk ever came from Dallas. Mortensen suggested it would take Barber and then it was twisted into"Dallas wants to trade barber."Jerry Jones saying Barber is not going anywhere relieves any worry I had about it. I understand the whole smoke screen here, but if anyone is sending a smoke screen, it is Miami using this to make one for themselves. Come to think of it, Jerry Jones has always gone out of his way to lock up really good players. I don't see him letting Barber go. I doubt we even trade for the first pick, but if we do, it won't include MBIII. :woot:

Barbara Jenkins, Louisville, Ky.: Hearing we might trade Marion Barber for the first draft pick seems crazy to me. All season long when we needed a big play, who did the Cowboys count on? Marion Barber every time. I just don't see where the first-round draft pick for an inexperienced player costing us one of the best running backs in the league is logical. My take on Bill Parcells taking all our coaches is if he wanted to have a Cowboys team he shouldn't have left. Why give him any more?

Mickey: Good one. Now hopefully this is the last time I have to tell everyone to chill out on this subject of trading Marion Barber as part of a package to get the first pick in the draft from Miami. First of all, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones just said there is no truth to that rumor. In fact, I'm told he screamed his "NO!" Secondly, the guy who first reported this, ESPN's Chris Mortensen, claims he said people in the Cowboys organization have kicked around what it would take to move up to the first pick in the draft and that it was he who suggested it would take Barber-and to move up that high. He claims he never said the Cowboys were considering trading Barber. Thirdly, would everyone just remember talk is cheap, and the more you guys talk about it, the more the Miami Dolphins get free pub on their willingness to trade the top pick. So if you feel obligated to help Bill Parcells out in Miami, just keep it up.

Marcus Lee, Kansas City: I wish people would quit wanting to mortgage away top players and picks for one player. Darren McFadden is a very talented player but I've watched him closely and he doesn't have the field vision or open field moves like an Adrian Peterson. I think making Marion Barber the feature back and getting Felix Jones gives you more value, with Felix Jones' explosive speed and return ability in a two-back system - which I and obviously our coaching staff prefers - is a better option. Adding to this it also gives us flexibility to use the other first-round pick to get a veteran receiver like an unhappy Chad Johnson, who is good friends with Terrell Owens, or maybe another talented veteran, or we could just use the pick on let's say Malcolm Kelly from OU, Mario Manningham of Michigan, or a corner like Tennessee State's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Mickey: Now we're talking. That too makes much more sense to me. The Cowboys aren't just one player away, and if they were, then that's not the one player. My gosh, they scored 455 points this year. I'm with you, and I got a feeling so is the Cowboys organization. Running back is not the problem. The breakdown at wide receiver (injuries) and cornerback (injuries and lack of depth) are what did the Cowboys in, in the end.

I have no idea who Mick is...but only Jerry Jones knows what he is going to do, and he aint sharing it with Mick or anyone else. Why would Jerry spills his hand about MBIII or D-Mac two months before the draft??? He is smarter than that.

If you follow the Dallas Cowboys, you would be surprised, but hat is missing here, is that Jerry didn't tell Mick directly. He was asked directly by a reporter and he refused it. As far as why would he show his hand. Exactly, why would he emphatically say he was going to trade Barber as well. It works both ways. He is definitely smarter than that. Miami has everything to gain from this rumor. Dallas has nothing to gain but competitors for the trade as well as making known his intentions for the draft. What about the comment by Mortensen himself that he says Dallas never said that, it was just conjecture. The man who first put it out there himself said that he never was told by Dallas that it was being considered.

Why don't you try and explain who Mick is for us????

And since when does someone speak for Jerry Jones?

im sorry i must be on the wrong website.i thought this was DOLPHINSNATION.COM?

MY MISTAKE.....

:rotfl1:
Isn't Mick that ugly guy on the Rolling Stones?

But seriously, I think there could be a trade involving our 1st overall and the Cowboys MBIII and two first rounders, if another team is involved...I could see Miami maybe wanting to drop down a few spots to maybe Atlanta's pick to maybe go after Ryan.

I thought this id have to do with the dolphins since it was a trade for them and its been all over this board for a while now.

Actually Thank You for the information. Excuse the ignorant fans who dont appreciate fans of other teams sharing info.

I would actually Guarantee that trade dosen't happen. If I am wrong I will put it in my signiture that I was wrong about this to admit it.

Roman makes an excellent. It is still a possibility. I'm just glad to hear it wasn't as definitive as what it was made out to be. Also, thanks for the support money. I harbor no hatred for Miami. Just thought it would be interesting to share.

I understand that part, but no one has yet made mention about the part where Mortensen said himself it was concejture, and that thought never came from within the Dallas organization. The fact that a journalist who openly admitted it came from the conjecture of a journalist not affiliated with the front office of either team has people believing so deeply that this is in the works confuses me. I don't mean that in an offensive way, but it really needs to be looked at from the perspective of what was said. Here is a more realistic scenario to me: Our 2 first rounders, Bobby Carpenter, and Marcus Spears for the first overall pick. That way Parcells gets two guys he drafted, 2 first round picks. We could then slide Ratliff over to fill the spot of marcus spears and use a nose tackle rotation of Jason Ferguson and Tank Johnson. This doesn't weaken our team, gives you 2 solid players, both former first round icks of ours, plus 2 more first round picks to pick the best available player. We can use the first rounder without weakening the D line too much or our backfield. That seems like a win win to both sides.

thanks for the info, not sure if its for sure or not but i hope it is. nothing against MBIII but I want our RB situation to be 95% ronnie brown. he proved this year that its the only position we do not need to worry about this offseason.
