I ran across this in Mick's mail. Suffice to say I was extremely happy and relieved to hear it. It is a classic example of the telephone game. Someone says something and someone takes it and runs away with it in order to create a headline. Aside from finding some of what was written amusing, it makes prefect sense what was brought up. Why try to fix an offense that set franchise records over even what the 90's teams set? Why try to fix a runningback position that does not need to be fixed when there are other needs to be addressed? Aside from that, it is now realized that none of this talk ever came from Dallas. Mortensen suggested it would take Barber and then it was twisted into"Dallas wants to trade barber."Jerry Jones saying Barber is not going anywhere relieves any worry I had about it. I understand the whole smoke screen here, but if anyone is sending a smoke screen, it is Miami using this to make one for themselves. Come to think of it, Jerry Jones has always gone out of his way to lock up really good players. I don't see him letting Barber go. I doubt we even trade for the first pick, but if we do, it won't include MBIII.

Barbara Jenkins, Louisville, Ky.: Hearing we might trade Marion Barber for the first draft pick seems crazy to me. All season long when we needed a big play, who did the Cowboys count on? Marion Barber every time. I just don't see where the first-round draft pick for an inexperienced player costing us one of the best running backs in the league is logical. My take on Bill Parcells taking all our coaches is if he wanted to have a Cowboys team he shouldn't have left. Why give him any more?
Mickey: Good one. Now hopefully this is the last time I have to tell everyone to chill out on this subject of trading Marion Barber as part of a package to get the first pick in the draft from Miami. First of all, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones just said there is no truth to that rumor. In fact, I'm told he screamed his "NO!" Secondly, the guy who first reported this, ESPN's Chris Mortensen, claims he said people in the Cowboys organization have kicked around what it would take to move up to the first pick in the draft and that it was he who suggested it would take Barber-and to move up that high. He claims he never said the Cowboys were considering trading Barber. Thirdly, would everyone just remember talk is cheap, and the more you guys talk about it, the more the Miami Dolphins get free pub on their willingness to trade the top pick. So if you feel obligated to help Bill Parcells out in Miami, just keep it up.
Marcus Lee, Kansas City: I wish people would quit wanting to mortgage away top players and picks for one player. Darren McFadden is a very talented player but I've watched him closely and he doesn't have the field vision or open field moves like an Adrian Peterson. I think making Marion Barber the feature back and getting Felix Jones gives you more value, with Felix Jones' explosive speed and return ability in a two-back system - which I and obviously our coaching staff prefers - is a better option. Adding to this it also gives us flexibility to use the other first-round pick to get a veteran receiver like an unhappy Chad Johnson, who is good friends with Terrell Owens, or maybe another talented veteran, or we could just use the pick on let's say Malcolm Kelly from OU, Mario Manningham of Michigan, or a corner like Tennessee State's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Mickey: Now we're talking. That too makes much more sense to me. The Cowboys aren't just one player away, and if they were, then that's not the one player. My gosh, they scored 455 points this year. I'm with you, and I got a feeling so is the Cowboys organization. Running back is not the problem. The breakdown at wide receiver (injuries) and cornerback (injuries and lack of depth) are what did the Cowboys in, in the end.
