i have to start out saying i really dont know all that much about Jerry Porter but why not give him a try out he might be able to start oppsite of ted ginn and take some pressure off our offense

What a schmuck!
His attitude in the past has been less than 'splendid' and he couldn't hold down a job in Jacksonville, which doesn't exactly have a rich history of receivers since Smith and McCardell. Neither of those points would pique one's interest in him much, he's thirty-one (which I know isn't old at all but means he's likely to be past his best) and he hasn't done much for the last about four years (even then not exactly being a Pro Bowl caliber player). He would need to be pretty flipping cheap to be a consideration.
