Jeter to center field?

He will eventually end up in LF assuming he can swallow his pride and do the best thing for the team. After this year the Yankees can let Matsui, Damon and Nady walk if they want. If Damon has a good year he can be kept. Then you stick Jeter in LF, Damon can move back to CF id Jackson is not ready, and Swisher/FA can take RF.

I don't see Jeter in CF for the same reason he is going to have to move from SS. His range is getting worse. Why move him from one position that requires great range to another one? Damon can still run, so stick him in CF instead or keep Gardener there if he works out. First base is out because of Tex. Second is covered long term by Cano. At 3rd we have the walking train wreck. So really He has to either DH or play LF or RF. LF suits him better because he has always played that side and his arm isn't RF caliber.

All of this of course is assuming Jeter will agree to move. This should be his last year at SS. Even he has to know that he is a lousy fielder. Hopefully the front office has the guts to let Jeter walk after '10 if he refuses the switch.

I have no idea what that is saying...but its a well established fact that Jeter's range in diminishing, especially to his left. He is a below average fielder. For now, his offense cancels out his defense plus some, but if his D range keeps slipping (which it will seeing as he is 35) he has to change positions. Cal Ripkin switched at around the same age. It happens. People age.

Im a huge Yankees/Jeter fan, but you can't have a player that is above the team. Jeter is not bigger than the Yankees. The Yanks need to take a lesson from the Red Sox and just let a player go if he can't or refuses to fit into whats best for the team.

watch baseball every once in a while, hes absolutely terrible defensively, and that is a fact not an opinion.

his range has been terrible for years, but finally this year people are starting to talk about it more.

crazy talk. he's not going anywhere. one of the best clutch performers of all time. the hate wouldn't exist if he was on a team not called the yankees.

Not really. He certainly is not the black hole there at SS that some people claim and his defense or lack thereof is exaggerated a bit because he plays for the Yankees, but he is not a very good fielder at this point. He is getting up there in age to boot. He is pretty much at the age now where the move from SS usually occurs. It happens to the best of them.

I love Jeter. He is one of my favorite players ever. But at some point the front office is gonna have to sit him down and explain that the best thing for the team will be from him to move, and if he refuses the Yanks need to move on after his contract expires. That's just how the game works. I really hope he reups his contract and moves to the OF, and I believe he will being the team guy he is. He should retire a Yankee.

Jeter to 3B and AROD to DH

Once Matsui is gone after this year it opens up the DH spot.
