So they snuck into the playoffs and will soon be sitting on the sideline much like Miami is, but in the long run we have just as much potential and promise next year with a lighter schedule by a few games, a higher draft pick, and no weight of added pressure.

It could be worse. . . they could actually be a good team going into the playoffs. :)

As it stands it looks like were eyeing a pick from #10-12, as we finish tied with the Jags and Bears at 7-9. The Jets are looking at a pick somewhere in the early twenties.

Schedule wise we get the Titans and Raiders while they get the Texans and Broncos. So I guess the schedule isn't too drastically different, but as long as the Jets aren't going to the Super Bowl, I'll take ten spots higher in the draft any day.

In addition to having a higher pick in the first round overall, a high draft pick in the second round and on makes for more enticing trade bait in this RFA heavy offseason.

Is this how spin them getting into the playoffs is a bad thing for them?

So, if we had beaten Tennessee and Houston (like the Jets did), that would have been bad for us, because we would have a lower draft pick, harder schedule, and more pressure?

Come'on guys. I hate the Jets more than anyone, but this is pathetic. Its the kind of stuff I would expect from a Jets board when we went to the playoffs.

Lets hope they get the livin' **** kicked out of them...but to say its bad for them...I dunno.

A way it could be bad is that (if they are like us) they will now keep a bad coach longer than they should because they will cling to this first year.

Well said...but people saying one and done are talking a bit prematurely, that Jets team is good. If they don't turn the ball over, they will destroy the Bengals once again in their own place. How they play against the Colts or Chargers, that's where it gets interesting. You can do great things with a #1 Defense.....right?... Killer Bee's in '82....they almost got it done with a piss poor offense.

Some times you need a little luck to get in, but the hottest team come playoff time often wins out over teams like Indy (who decided to rest up after they were 14-0). The Jets are on a roll so I don't think you can dawg them.....even if you hate them.

That's exactly what this is, making things bearable. So what? Just trying not to live in misery, you have fun with that.

IF the Jets don't win it all, everything becomes irrelevant until the offseason for us and them, and yes, having a pick in or next to the top 10 will be awesome. Making the playoffs last year did nothing for Miami this year. You win the big one or its all moot. The playoffs are high risk, low reward.

If the Jets don't win the big one we're sitting prettier in the offseason, that is a fact. If you want to brush that off its fine with me. Having got Henne, Long, Hilliard, Hartline, Smith, Davis, Merling, Langford, and Thomas the past two drafts I'm excited to see what the Trifecta does with an unexpectedly high pick.

Right now the Jets are playing good football! They are dominating on defense and running the ball well. As long as they can limit the mistakes by Sanchez they can make a run in the playoffs! Now I am violently ILL!!!:(

i would much rather be celebrating being in the playoffs then sitting at crap 7-9

Say that now, sure, but come April it's all irrelevant, Miami was just not a good enough team to take it further. Nonetheless it was an exciting season to say the least with great games, close ones, almost weekly, and staying relevant all the way to the last week of the season.

I had a lot of fun this season and have not been this optimistic heading into and offseason in a long time.

But you say it yourself, they are questionable at a position that is key to a good run, the QB. The Jets are a 9-7 ballclub, they are hardly invincible. Hell, we beat them twice, twice! How will Sanchez keep up with the Mannings and Rivers of the world?

look i hate the jets as much as anyone

but they have the #1 D and #1 rushing offense

with a rookie QB taking snaps

they have alot to be excited about... and if they get a cold weather game or a hot streak by sanchez that team could make a run...

It is not about him keeping up with them, it is about him not hurting his team. Let his defense and running game do the rest. Think of Rothlisberger in his first Superbowl season, Dilfer with the Ravens scenerio. Look the very thought of this makes me ill, but the reality is they are playing well they have overcome adversity and could make a run in the post season.

You win and lose games at the LOS. And for the last 6 weeks, including the loss to Atlanta, the Jets have dominated the LOS. When you can do that and not turn the ball over, you can beat anyone at any given time with the help of a few big plays from both sides of the ball, which the Jets are capable of doing.

Open your eyes. If Mark Sanchez is the truth, the Jets are going to be a special team. The AFCE is going to be interesting. The Phins and Jets are two teams heading in the right direction and the Patsies have their vets with a ton of early picks next year. It will be interesting to see if the Jets or the Phins can finally over take the Pats in the AFCE over the next fews years. IMO if Sanchez is the truth the Jets are in a much better position to be that team than the Phins, even with the 2 wins against the Jets this year.

The Ravens had a once in a decade D. As for Roethlisberger, he was not a rookie that year, and did not show the inconsistency of Sanchez. I just don't buy the hype. The media already fell in love with the Jets this season and then out of love. Here we go again I guess. They have a one dimensional O and they blitz way too much.

Again, it comes down to the QB. Is Mark Sanchez the truth? That's a big question, a big one. He's been wildly inconsistent this year with everything from a 5 interception game to a string of solid outings. What if Chad Henne is the truth? Here's a guy who lost his starting RB and had to put up with an awful secondary giving up huge points week in and out, an 0-3 start to the season, and a mediocre WR corps, yet he still got his team a game or two away from the playoffs. What if Henne is the truth as you put it? A bigger truth at that? Another seven rounds of drafting (in the top 12 at that) and an offseason's worth of improvement that shores up our safety play and addresses the need for a #1 receiver could make Miami an equally special team. Why not?

I think what people are missing here is not a Jets team so much on a rise heading into the playoffs, but a Bengals team on a down spiral. They've been mediocre the second half of the season. This loss was not surprising, and neither will another loss next week. But after that I just don't think the Jets have the breadth to go much further. That's just my opinion and I'll leave it at that.
