Rebound Game: Jets v. Dolphins

Keys to the Game on Offense:

1)Containing Jason Taylor:
The Dolphins have switched to a 3-4 base defense(mixing in the 4-3) with Jason Taylor as their hybrid DE/OLB. Last week, Taylor was everywhere recording 5 tackles, 1 sack, .5 tackle for a loss, FF, and returning a fumble for a TD. Plummer was frenetically looking for him before each snap as the Dolphins move him as much as possible. He was just a terror last week. He can do the same thing vs. the Jets if the Jets arnt careful. Fabini has done a decent job on Taylor in year's past but this year I think it could be a hugh matchup problem if the Jets don't gameplan right I could see the Jets keeping Sowell, Martin, and sometimes Baker in their specifically to help block Taylor.

2)Jets' ability to pick up the Dolphin blitzes:
This is not the same Dolphins secondary which had Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison in his prime. Madison is getting up there in age now and is only average in coverge. Howard is a big, physical guy on the other side in the David Barrett mold but he is more of a nickelback and the Dolphins are fooling themselves starting him. I can see the Dolphins playing a lot of zone to try and cover up their weakness in the secondary, but when they play a tight, man coverage and blitz Pennington, and the Jets do a better job of picking it up than last week, I think you'll see some fireworks in the passing game because of how average the secondary is.

3)Get Martin goin'
In the running game, the Dolphins did a decent job against the run last week, but I don't think threy have the personell in the 3-4 to stop the run. Traylor is still big and tough to move, but he's getting real old and doesn't make too many plays anymore. Zach Thomas is undersized and did a great job at slipping blocks with 2 DT's in front of him, but with only 1 DT in front of him, I think Mawae will eat him up moreso than usual. I see the Jets almost stubbornly running the football to start off the game because they know if their gonna be a successful offensive team, they need to get Martin goin. I think the Jets didn't play to their strengths last week with all the sweeps they ran. The Jets arn't the best sweep team and Martin is a shifty, north-south runner. I see them using more power football between the tackles to challenge the interior of the Dolphins defense.

Look For:
-Chris Baker to have another big game. If Heimerdinger continues to call plays that go to him, he'll make plays this week as he will run circles around the aging SLB Junior Seau/SS Tebucky jones.

-Wayne Chrebet to get more looks in the slot against rookie CB Travis Daniels. Chrebet is still deft at finding the soft spots in zone in the slot plus he could prove useful as on short crossing routes to beat the blitzes.

CONCLUSION:
We're not gonna put up 30 points on the Dolphins as my post might infer simply because the Dolphins are well coached, scheme well, and they still have playmakers like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas in the Front 7, but they don't have the same speed in the secondary and overall talent on defense. I think the Jets will come out this week and you'll see a more concerted effort by the Jets to run the ball successful early and a more balance overall. The Jets will work off the run and exploit the Dolphins deep through the air.

Key to the Game on Defense:

1)Make Frerrotte win them the Game- The pilosophy is simple on defense and for the entire team really...Make QB Gus Frerotte beat you. This means, if necessary, putting 8-9 guys in the box to stop Ronnie Brown and making the offense predictable. Don't give Frerotte the luxury of having a run game to work off of. Don't let a man get behind you because you were fooled by the run. make Gus throw 35 times and there's a good chance he will hurt his team with bad decisions. Also, don't turn the ball over and give them good field position and don't give up points to the Defense or ST. Having Ty Law instead of Donnie Abraham on chris Chambers allows us to take the saftey help off Chambers and putting it towards containg Randy McMichael while probably containing Chambers just as much if not more. Hobson usually does a decent job on McMicheal but having safety help will guard against the deep balls that he likes to throw. I don't see the Jets blitzing too much(Pending JABE getting more snaps). I think our Dl's odds are pretty good off getting to Frerotte considering how poor the OL is. They hired OL guru Hudson Houck to fix em up and I suspect they are better, but with that lack of talent, I'd bet we'll get a decent amount of pressure. This means we'll prob see some more pre-snap movement and different zone looks hoping to bait Frerotte into making bad decisions.

Look For:
Just much more energy from our defense as a whole. I think the Dolphins will run the ball a little-Reed is a terrible weakness- but overall I think we'll clamp down and we'll see our Line in the backfield throughout the day. I see our LB's having a much better day considering they'll be freed up a bit more due to our superior line and I think Barrett will have a better game.

Prediction:

Jets 24 Dolphins 13

Jets Insiders Keys to game... :fire:

YEAH RIGHT>>>>http://www.jetsinsider.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99519

Also, don't turn the ball over and give them good field position and don't give up points to the Defense or ST.Good quote.

This area will be key!

Never know... I think that this write up would have been vastly different if it was written before the Denver game! =)

I think it is going to be a dog fight. Like it ALWAYS is between these two teams.

yeah, I agree. Neither side will see an easy victory. If we lose, I hope we go out with a big thud and leave them feeling it!!

first of all, i'm NEVER serious when i talk crap BEFORE playing an opponent and secondly, i don't believe anyone can call this game anything .... whther a close game or a blow out. no one really knows so when i hear warnings posts pro-jets or pro-fiedler i don;t give them much weight. it's posters like these who live for drama and at every given turn have to drop warning signs to add (for themselves mainly) small verbal asterisks, lame attempts @ inflating the drama tube. these are the guys who are always saying: "they say this is gonna be the worst summer/winter yet" gloom and doom forecasters. away with yawlll.

and to even say the word lose in relation to the dolphins. i DEFINITELY don't want you touching my DRF for any reason.

i think this game is very unpredictable i wouldnt be surprised by a blowout from either team or a close game...

really the jets weren't the jets last week, or were they? we dont know, they are not supposed to be that bad, but sometimes teams can drop like that, losing their key run stopper, an older martin and jordan gone, penningtons shoulder... maybe they really are that bad? but most likely not, this is what we dont know, where are the jets really at, thats why this game is so unpredictable...

then theres us, were we really that good? did we overachieve for one game? did denver suck that bad and come in that unprepared? was it the weather that changed things in the second half? more unknowns...

really i have no idea what to expect from this game, im hoping we win and im thinking we will because i do believe we are a good team, but really this game is very unpredictable...

I have to disagree with this statement. For some reason he thinks that the overall talent has gone down from last year? We lose Surtain and Bowens, but add Daniels, Crowder, Schulters, Spragan, Traylor, Holliday. Hmmm ... something just doesn't add up.

I like their idea of 8-9 guys in the box and let Gus beat them. It sure worked out for Denver last week when Gus had 275 yds. With Chambers, Booker, Boston. McMike and the emergence of Welker in the passing game, I don't think teams can continue to play 8 or 9 man fronts against us. This is no longer Wanny ball.

That's what I'm thinking. We have good RBs, WRs, TEs and our QB is listed as the 5th passes after last round.

I don't mind the Jets making us pass.

Madison average in coverage?...Reggie Howard big?...Is this Jet insider on crack?...How about Mawae getting old, instead of picking Phins Seau and Traylor for the old folks home?...And no mention of Pennington with slippery fingers and Coles with Alligator arms, what's up with that...Maybe it's all the New Jersey pollution he's been sniffin!

What the heck is a DRF??? I'm a TRUE fan of the Phins, but also realistic enough to know we're not going 16-0...

This guy obviously is once again going on info based on previous years and such. He didn't watch a single down of the Dolphins-Broncos game, otherwise, he would know that Traylor CAN still make plays, that Zach is just as good if not better in this Hybrid Defense, and our secondary came up BIG against Plummer. Also, put 8 to 9 in the box and make Gus beat you? Um, isn't that exactly what Denver did. Hey, Jet fan, guess what? Gus beat them. Scott Linehan is NOT Chris Foerster and does NOT have Dave Wannstead anymore holding in the reigns. He has an imagination and can actually game plan. 4 and 5 wide receiver sets will spread out that defense and allow gus to play pitch and catch and open more lanes for ronnie to run the ball. I love how these people go off of last year. He says, "I suspect they are better in the OLine but have a lack of talent"... again, going off of last years play and not watching what this line did against the Broncs...
