Jets | Team makes offer to Runyan
Wed, 22 Mar 2006 20:38:06 -0800

Adam Caplan, of Pro Football News and Injury Report, reports the New York Jets met with free agent OT Jon Runyan (Eagles) Wednesday, March 22, and made a contract offer to him. The two sides are expected to continue negotiations Thursday, March 23.

It sounds like it is getting closer and that is good.

It does, however, make the draft look more and more like a QB in the first round.

Interesting.

DON'T FOLLOW THE MONEY

When players say it's not about the money, it's always about the money. At least, almost always.

For once, it's absolutely true. Offensive tackle Jon Runyan faced two choices today: He could re-sign with Philadelphia, accepting the Eagles' three-year, $12.5 million contract; or he could defect to the New York Jets, who were willing to pay Runyan double the money in the first year of the contract and millions more over the life of it.

But Runyan couldn't do it. He couldn't leave the home he was building in Mt. Laurel, N.J., for the Jets' training complex on Long Island. He couldn't leave the Philadelphia market in which he felt so comfortable. And he couldn't leave behind his three kids while he commuted to Long Island.

New York general manager Mike Tannenbaum even asked Runyan in a telephone conversation today if there were any way the Jets could do anything to get the offensive tackle to agree to sign. When Runyan said no [your team sucks], his talks with the Jets were off and his deal with the Eagles was on.

 That's how bad the Jets are at the moment? They offer a mega contract to a guy twice as large as his current and he turns it down. God, they really suck, don't they.

They didn't offer a mega contract worth twice as much, the #s were close. The Jets slightly higher and Runyan said all along he was not leaving unless the difference was huge btw Philly's offer and another team. I respect the heck out of Runyan for doing that and wish my team was full of guys like him.

Thats true. You could have had 50 million tied up in QBs with similar injuries. But hey, if you get a really good doctor, maybe he could cut them both apart and assemble one really good one. Best of luck this season, you guys are going to need it.

We restructured so much less than 50 million and the Chad experiment, while not looking good right now, is not over.

Do you think they actually played Chad to early and do you think he will ever recover?
