Jets Trade Jamal Adams to Seattle

A couple of thoughts from a closet Seahawks fan....(shhhhh!)

The ESPN article posted earlier mentions that Seattle is skeptical of next year's draft class with the college football season in possible limbo this year. Who will come out? How many games will they play this year? Who could they draft at the end of the 1st round next year anyway?

Also, if you follow the Seahawks like I do, you know that Seattle has absolutely no clue what to do with a first round draft pick besides trade down. This year they drafted Jordyn Brooks, an ILB considered a 2-3 round player. In 2018 they drafted Rashaad Penny and before that Malik McDowell (top 2nd, 1st traded away) who never played a down after an ATV accident.

Seattle is New England West. They make their hay on late round draft picks (Wilson, Wagner, Wright, Sherman, Carson etc...) and retread FAs with past success (Duane Brown, Greg Olsen, Bruce Irvin, Clowney, Micheal Bennett). They also collect good UFAs. It's just what they do.... and it works!

The Seahawks don't care about two low 1st round picks, they got a firey 24 YO Pro-Bowl proven player who wants to win. Hopefully they can resign him but Seattle is a great team and a good environment for players.

Meanwhile, the Jets can use the extra draft picks for their next rebuild.:munch:

Pretty good insight and pretty fair strategy when you think about it. Good post.

The Jets already have as good if not better talent on their roster than the Dolphins. With two first round picks in 2021 and 2022 the Jets will be able to add quality talent to a team that isn’t that far away from being a good team. With the Dolphins building their own quality team and the Bills and Patriots already with solid teams , the AFC East is going to be a tough division to win for one of those four teams in the years to come.

I think it was a great trade for both teams. The Jets are still trying to build their team into a winner and they need all the draft picks they can get to do that. As you point out Seattle is great at taking players later in the draft and Signing quality free agents and making it work. So getting one of the top safeties in the league and giving up what will probably be two first round picks in the latter part of the first round makes perfect sense for the Seahawks.

I Just listened to MTC on SiriusXM about the Seahawks-Jets trade. According to Pete Carroll, Seattle was talking to the NYJ for months about the trade. With Seattle's projected ADP of 20-32 they would have to give up a 2022 1st round pick just to move up for a top 10 draft pick next year. Adams is better than any 2021 top 10 pick with no experience. He is ready to play now and yet he's only 24 yrs old.

Signing-wise, he has one year left on his rookie contract plus a 5th year option and Seattle could then tag him twice if need be. So not too much risk there and Seattle has some cap space (but they do have to resign Clowney). Trading McDougald adds additional cap flexibility for the Hawks.

Seattle's defense rocks with great Safety play. They miss Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas so signing Adams should make a BIG impact.

The Jets get two extra 1st rounders and one less Gase Headache Player. Plus, McDougald can start for them. We as Miami fans, know the value of extra high draft picks for draft mobility. Now we have 2 firsts next year but so will our rival. But... Whom will be the next Gase Headache Player and can he solidify the locker room? Can Gregg Williams keep his ego in check?

I just think Miami's organization is much more stable than the Jets right now. Both GMs seem solid but Flores is HC material while Gase is a better OC than HC. If Gase and/or Darnold don't make the cut, New York will have to REBOOT again and more talent will running for the door. Jamal Adams' exodus may be the beginning of a new Jets implosion. Meanwhile, the Dolphins will be that much further ahead.

Do you think this trade will affect the Dolphins?
