Per an article on Profootballtalk.com:

Under Article XXI, Section 3 of the CBA, the Cowboys, Cardinals, Vikings, Saints, Jets, Ravens, Chargers, and Colts will be limited in their ability to sign unrestricted free agents in 2010.

First, the Final Eight teams may sign any unrestricted free agent who obtained that status by being released and clearing waivers.

Second, the Final Eight teams may sign any unrestricted free agent who was under contract with that team at the conclusion of the 2009 league year.

Third, one unrestricted free agent may be signed for each unrestricted free agent that a Final Eight team loses, but only at the same first-year salary the departed player receives elsewhere, with limitations on future growth of the deal.

Fourth, the Final Eight teams may sign one unrestricted free agent at a first-year salary of $4.925 million (plus the annual percentage increases in total football revenue since 2006), and an unlimited number unrestricted free agents at a first-year salary of $3.275 million (plus the percentage increases of total football revenue since 2006), with limitations on future growth of the deal.

The teams that win this weekend will be further limited, with the fourth option explained above disappearing.

Not that they were going to make a huge splash anyway, but it's nice to know that there are some shackles on them, in addition to their late draft pick.

Who cares I would rather them sign free agents, because normally they sign anyone with 2 legs and a beating pulse and alot of the times it doesnt work out for them

This is a real stretch, trying to find a silver lining in having to watch the Jets play football deep into January. Ugh. I'm as disgusted by the Jets as anyone else, but knowing that they have a few additional financial strings attached to their FA pick-ups really doesn't console me.

WE BEAT THEM TWICE THIS YEAR AND THEY GET TO BACK INTO THE PLAYOFFS! AAAAHHHHH!

Without a new CBA the FA is going to be so limited I don't think it matters.

We don't really need alot of help(and hopefully we can get what we need in the draft) but our FAs the past few years have work our brilliantly.

Per Profootballtalk:

"Final Eight" plan doesn't apply to restricted free agents

Posted by Mike Florio on January 12, 2010 10:59 AM ET
Now that the final eight teams of the 2009 season have been set, we recently laid out the specific provisions that prevent the NFL's quarterfinalists from cornering the market on unrestricted free agents in the coming uncapped year.

But here's an important point to keep in mind -- the limitations of the "Final Eight" plan apply only to unrestricted free agents.

So when it comes to the men whose contracts have expired but who haven't finished six NFL seasons (up from four in capped years), the final eight teams may jump into the bidding, limited only by whether they have the draft picks available to compensate the teams that hold the rights to the restricted free agents under consideration.

So if, for example, the Colts win the Super Bowl and they want to pursue Cowboys receiver Miles Austin, the Colts will be able to do it without waiting for someone to sign one of their free agents. Though it might take a first-round pick and a third-round pick to get Austin, the Colts can break the bank, if they so choose, knowing that they'd be giving up only the 32nd and 96th picks in the draft to get him.

Did Faneca really have a probowl year? I didn't really watch him outside of our two division games.

We don't really have any big holes to fill, we just need to re-sign our guys IMO. Getting Jenkins and Washington back will be huge.

No. His pass blocking was below average. His run blocking was outstanding as usual, but I would expect a pro-bowl guard to be better in pass protection.

Whats so great about them. We got Wilford, Wilson... ehh nevermind.

I don't get caught up in pro bowls, he probably doesn't deserve it but he's been really good for us. Not the ewlite guy he was for so many years but he's really good.

I don't know why anybody would want to go to the Jets anyway. I mean i guess it makes sense from a big market stand point, but they're a second class team in a first class city. Add that to the cold weather during the NFL season whilst playing in a stadium built for New York City's REAL marquee franchise and you have a very unattractive team for free agents......In theory. Yet the Jets make big splashes in FA while we get nobody.

Then I apologize, I really don't follow you guys too much as far as personel maybe I was thinking of your horrible drafting :)

C'mon people. Why are you trying to convince yourself that the Jets are worse off for making it to the playoffs?

I hate the Jets too, but it's getting ridiculous around here.

A hate the Jets as much as the next Fin fan, but until we make a impact in free agency, instead of signing projects, possible diamonds in the rough, moving players out of position, or players averaging 5 games a year on the side line injured we have no advantage here.
