Hopefully Hafley is disciplined and capable of being HC and calling defensive plays, but if it becomes an issue after the first few games, I hope he turns it over to his DC. He seems humble enough to make a wise decision, IF that happens. We’ll see where this ends up
Calling plays on offense though is a lot more complex with a lot more variables
Calling plays on offense while handling HC duties is a larger task
Week 3.So how long will it be before half the forum will be demanding Halfway give up play calling the defense?![]()
I think this is going to be an issue you were hired as the head coach, which means you oversee all the aspects of the team offense, defense special teams, having you have all those responsibilities as well as call the defense. It’s a distraction. I would say he could have heavy input during the week in the meetings training, but I think it’s a bad idea to have a first time head coach also calling the defense. No chance with Hafley calling plays unfortunately
Me today! It’s a bad idea3-2-1-![]()

Or, ideally, someone that can learn for a while how to HC likes to call plays and then can grow into a more complete roll as DC. Maybe that's wishful. I'm not a fan of the HC trying to do more than manage the sideline and be an executive over the coordinators who can give their roles 100% focus.Hafley is the DC. Anyone in that made-up role will be holding binoculars and an iPad on game day.
True dat ... we're fishing for a Compensatory Pick!!We already have chosen our dc. We’re just waiting to announce it until we have clarification of Weaver is getting the AZ job
I think that our DC in title will coordinate the front-7, while Hafley calls the plays and makes sure the DBs are on the same page. That's going to rule out Schwartz, but I could see how it might be an attractive situation to an up-and-comer like Sean Duggan.Hafley is the DC. Ding ding dingI'd take him as our DC in a heartbeat; but, we may not hire him due to our new HC having said that he's going to be calling our defensive plays, and Schwartz no doubt will want to call his own plays.
I was told it wasn't. I didn't care to debate the points with the individual but you are absolutely correct. We’ll see where this ends up
