The talk in the media today is that Wayne has had talks with NFL Executive Jim Steeg over the past nine months about possibly becoming Eddie Jones's successor. It looks like Eddie Jones is more serious about retiring than at any point in his career this year. From what I gathered from the article, Steeg is waiting to see how much power he will have.

Steeg was the business manager for the Dolphins back in the 1970s. While he wasn't the GM, he had a lot of GM duties like negotiating contracts and things along that line. Steeg has basically run the Superbowl for the past 25 years.

Well if he ran the superbowl he certainly spiced up the halftime show last year:)

the Dolphins have discussed a possible management position for Jim Steeg, the NFL's senior executive director of special events. The mere germ of an idea might well be the best notion that any Dolphins employee has hatched this year.
...
And we doubt, as well, that the Dolphins are the lone franchise interested in hiring Steeg, a remarkable administrator who has put out a lot of fires for the league. Steeg, who worked for the Dolphins in the '70s as their business manager, might not have the hands-on football experience some teams desire.

sounds like a reasonable replacement for Eddie Jones

This is starting to sound like it would be a great move. This team needs someone that has a lot of administrative ability to turn this thing back around. One big plus is that Steeg, due to his time as the director of special events in the NFL, is pretty much associated with all of the general managers league wide. It should be easy for him to find a good football man to come in and run things. People tend to hire people that have had associations with them in the past in this business.

This is the position I had intially thought Dan Marino would eventually hold. If Steeg comes aboard, maybe that VP of Football Operations will become more attractive to Marino.
