There was nothing wrong wwith Bates, he just was not a sexy pick.

Bates was good on defense, but not the best on offense. We need a coach who can get it done on both sides of the ball. I put 75% of the blame on Mularkey.

Bates ran vanilla schemes on defense. The next coach of the Dolphins should be an offensive guy. Since Shula left, its been all defensive coaches.
