I haven't been on this board that long, but when Jimmy became coach, was the optimism higher? I would think this board was going crazy when he became coach due to his reputation, plus we still had Dan.

I wasn't on the board, but I was very hopefull then. But I think I'm more hopefull now!

hopeful in what way? JJ drafted some pretty good players when he was here. And yet we didn't get to far with him, what in this regime is different. I would be even more tentative, JJ had all the credentials, 3 super bowls. Saban is a college coach, i'm hoping not the next spurrier or butch davis.

As far as this board is concerned, I don't think it was in existence when JJ was hired.

Yes thats right. The general feeling was that Shula had lost it and that Johnson was our saviour.

You couldnt ask for a better track record.National Champions and SB Champion.

The only problem was that JJ didnt have his heart in it anymore.

JJ was also stuck with marino at the tail end of his career. If JJ replaced him the media would have crucified him, and marino was trying to hang on a bit too long.

I was not on this board. (Pre internet for me) but my buddies and I thought with JJ and Marino still playing good ball that we were winning the SB so the expectations were higher for myself and my fellow Dolphin buddies

I guess the general consensus now is guarded optimism.

Fellas....who else did we have on that team....nobody...a bunch of rookies and second year players named zach, taylor, madison, surtain...no receivers worth while and NO RUNNING back. Rember when Jimmy left...the feeling was that the fins were close tothe superbowl cause he developed his draft players into men...the reason he brought wannestedt in here is cause he thought the team wouldn't lose a beat...boy was he wrong....oh yeah, we were really superbowl contenders with lamar smith running behind a medicore line, with no receivers!!

Great expectations

Maybe if we would of had a decent running game it would have been different...
Love Ya Dan you are the reason I'm a Phin fan!!

Two superbowls, the third one was Barry Switzer, with Jimmy's team.

To me I was very hopeful when JJ came in with his track record, but then he started tearing about the offense, and playing games with Marino, he turned me off fast.

JJ was always a good talent scout, but in my eyes not a very good coach and teacher. He surrounded himself with other good coaches.

Saban seems to be as good a talent evaluator, but is also a teacher and to me he seems to have a better idea in what he wants to do. I can remember a quote about Saban that stands out to me. It was something like this, Saban not only teaches his players, but teaches his coaches how to coach his players.

I guess I don't really understand the question or what this guy is fishing for. I mean, we're fans, we love our team, wouldn't expectations be high and wouldn't we have optimism regardless of who our coach was? I mean, as much as we all couldn't stand Wanny, we still held optimism for a successful football team, because as fans, that's what we SHOULD have held. Yes, when JJ became coach, there was optimism, and when Wanny replaced him, there was less, but still we help out hope, now we have Saban and because of his track record and his "potential" we probably feel better than we have since Shula was here. As fans, that's what we do, hold onto optimism and hope that our coaches and players validate that optimism...

I guess another way to say this, we were the Miami Dolphins when JJ took over, a team that was always in the playoffs and good. So we just thought it would be the same but maybe better!

Then came last year!

So Saban brings in new hope! A new hope to bring the Miami Dolphins back to where we belong! Super Bowl champs! I think people are more optimismistic now because of being at the bottom.
