Joe Philbin is an impressive man who will build a legacy in Miami that will last a long time. That's the impression that I came away with after looking at his introductory press conference.

I agree, except for his height, you would walk straight past him without paying him much attention - looks like some regular, older, bald guy. But once he opened his mouth, I couldn't help but be impressed; first by the man and second by his football vision. It's easy to understand why Ross chose him as our newHC.

I expect Philbin to have a gigantic impact on the Miami Dolphins organization starting at the top with the owner Mr. Ross and the GM Jeff Ireland. I think his humility, character and vision will make Ross a better owner and certainly make Ireland, who is a good scout, a much better GM. And the impact of that, coupled with his handpicked staff, will make the franchise stronger to the core and sets them up for sustained success.

I even expect Philbin's impact to extend to members of the media who currently cover the Dolphins. Many of these reporters come across and immature and lacking true football perspective in commenting on football decisions - I see Philbin, with the wisdom of his answers, teaching these fellas a thing or two along the way.

Having been a Fins fan for decades and having listened to and followed our coaches from Shula, JJ, Wanny, Saban, Cameron, Sparano... my impression of Philbin is that he has things figured out, he knows who he is, has a vision for what he wants and has a plan as to how he will get there.

Now ultimately, the results will determine if all of this is true, but I can say that I am very proud to call Joe Philbin "Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins".

It is nice to read an intelligent well written post here. Well done. Welcome to FH.

I'm not sure about him having such a positive effect on people like the media, but I can honestly say I was more impressed by his opening press conference than I ever have been by any other coach in Dolphins history. If he is truly a man of his word(which I think he is) then we can expect great things in the future for this organization.

I am very proud to call Joe Philbin "Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins".

My thoughts exactly after watching the entire presser. The man is clearly not only smart and very thoughtful, but he also knows how to communicate his ideas. He even expounded on this point in the presser, reiterating several times that one of the planks in his coaching platform is simplicity. I liked the part about players being able to understand the Packers offense if they can count to 4. I've always said that, particularly with the head coach, leadership, communication and adaptability seem to be more important than schemes. The last Dolphins coach who struck me as a man of great intelligence was Cam Cameron. However, as compared to Coach Philbin, Cam Cameron seemed to have difficulty communicating his thoughts and ideas. That was apparent at his introductory presser and became a pronounced problem throughout that dismal season as reports of his complete disconnect with the locker room kept surfacing. Coach Philbin is not going to have that problem.

While I would root for the Dolphins no matter who the coach is (well, it would be very tough if they ever hired Rex Ryan or Bill Belichick down the road), the more I learn and hear the more I really feel like I can get behind Coach Philbin personally. Here's hoping he's the one who turns it around.

He has an aura of quiet dignity about him that commands respect. He strikes me as a man with a plan and the focused intelligence to carry it out.

I've rapidly morphed from "pleased it wasn't 1 of the other 3" to "hopefully happy" to now "thrilled" with his selection

I was impressed with him and wish him nothing but the best of luck. My take is slightly different though.

Ross is going to meddle and you can tell already that he will do whatever Ross tells him to do.

I thought it was EXTREMELY interesting how he spoke about the time he spent with Ross when Ireland wasn't around. He is a lap dog and Ireland is quickly becoming a lap dog too. It is just a matter of time before one of them goes to Ross and whines about the other one.
