The smokescreen is an accepted part of communications from coaches and general managers in the days and weeks leading up to the draft.
We know they’re fudging the truth, they know we know they’re fudging the truth and everyone goes along because it’s all part of the game. To work, though, the smokescreen has to be somewhat believable or the whole thing just becomes ridiculous. Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is experiencing the rodeo for the first time from the big chair and some comments he made about Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill on Tuesday make you hope that he gets a little better at it in the future.
“We’ve talked obviously a lot,” Philbin said, via Mike Beradino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “We’ve had draft meetings. We’ve discussed him as an individual. We’ve watched his film. Obviously Mike [Sherman] has been around Ryan for a long, long time, but it wasn’t like we sat around and said, ‘OK, what about him at eight?’”
Really? Not once in all of these discussions about Tannehill was there a moment when someone asked the room if it made sense to actually draft him?
It’s starting to feel like the Dolphins are protesting a bit too much whenever Tannehill’s name comes up in discussion. Whether or not the decree is coming from the owner’s box about drafting Tannehill, there’s some reason why the Dolphins are working so hard to send a message that Tannehill isn’t the apple of their eye.

Will be laughing my azz off at all these media slow synapse-firing mouth-breathers if and when we pass up Tannehill.

I want Tannehill, partly because that means we don't take Weeden.

If we get down to Weeden, I say take him partly because that means we don't let it slip to Osweiler.

But if it slips to Osweiler, I say take him because we have NOTHING left.

If one of those 3 isn't on this team by Saturday, it's all over with anyway. We can forget about being a viable NFL franchise for yet another year.

if we draft one of those three, you realize that in all likelyhood they won't be starting next year anyways right... unless we go like 2-12 and we want to getthe kids feet wet.

All 3 QBs listed aren't NFL ready. Hence NONE should be drafted in the TOP 10.

so if we take one of them we are viable this year?

Barkley in 2013!!

:err: Tough to think Miami will get Barkley in 2013, then they will not even come close to drafting in the position needed to get him. People need to stop worrying about next year, and worry about this year....we need a QB, GET HIM THIS YEAR!!!

Forget the BATT for MATTgarbage, and win as many games as possible this year. We need to think playoffs, not drafts during the season.

tay0365: It's extremely presumptuous to suggest that Miami has the ability to win 10 games this year, no matter who we draft, but especially if we use our 1st rounder on a player who has no value to the 2012 team. We won 3 more games than Indy did and look what it did for us. Also, any hope of Miami competing this season went out the window when Brandon Marshall was traded. There's no way Miami can fill enough holes (especially with that monster whole created by losing Marshall) to be able to win 10 games, so playing for a great spot in the 2013 draft is EXACTLY what the 2012 season should be about. Guys like Karlos Dansby should be traded for picks today too. He'll be over the hill the next time Miami is a legit playoff contender.
