Joe Staley

he had a poor game yesterday. If he has a poor combine, he may be around in the 3rd actually. i want him though. he's just too small right now.

I didn't realise he played in the senior bowl. Which team was he on?

The north team. granted, he had to block guys like Ray Mcdonald, Tim Crowder, and quentin mozes.

Actually, he was on the south, and he's the one who gave up three blindside sacks on Chris Leak and Jordan Palmer via Jay Moore

He looked horrible. Didnt look like he had the strength to actually play the position.

He is the 3rd or 4th ranked LT depending on whom you ask. Behind Levi and Joe of course and perhaps behind Ugoh depending on whom you ask.

Not really thrilled about him, wonder how houck would take to his size or not.

Anybody seen anything of Central Michigan LT Joe Staley?

Scott Wright is pretty high on him: http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/ot/joestaley.html

Maybe worth our second rounder if we don't get Levi Brown at 9?

I could be wrong but I think he'll be phenomenal with a year of bulking up and learning technique. In the Senior Bowl he faced the best competition he's faced his entire career. He's got the best feet of any of the tackles which will help him against speed rushers like Freeney. He is a project though. He'll be useless in 2007.

yea i got it messed up. i tried to edit it before it was acknowledged. Caught me.

I knew he had a poor performance either way though. That IS the knock on him right now. he needs to bulk up. It's gonna take him 2-3 years just to become big enough to handle LT in the NFl. But once he's big enough, he very well may become one of the best in the league.

not entirely true. The sacks he gave up were not because he got beat. He blocked in towards the DT each sack. The first time it happened, I'd say it was Staley making a mistake, but when it happens 3 times I find it hard to believe that he's at fault each time.

He looked good at times, but for the most part, his entire team sucked yesterday. IMO he's still one of the better OTs in the game, he jus struggles a bit with the bull rush (which actually isn't a big problem since LTs don't go up against many bull rushers).

Ugoh has a lot of potential, but is extremely overrated IMO.

I might be wrong, but when I was watching the senior bowl, those sacks against him looked like blown assignments: he didn't even touch Moore on any of those sacks. Which of course doesn't speak to highly for him, but I don't think he stood out negatively or positively aside from that. Wouldn't mind him in the 3rd.

This is what Pat Kirwan had to say about Joe Staley:

"Joe Staley, Central Michigan left tackle: Staley was adequate on Monday, shaky on Tuesday by his own admission to me and an absolute stud on Wednesday. Defenders bull rushed him, took a few turns at the speed rush and some tried to cross his face. Staley demonstrated movement skills, attitude and, most importantly, the desire to compete. Chase Pittman from LSU was his main competition all day, and he responded in a big way. Staley caught the eye of many coaches."

They also say that the practices are actually more important than the games at the senior bowl...

Assuming we don't draft Levi Brown in the first round, and Staley is still on the board in the second, you would definitely have to consider taking him.

Staley also was the cause of two of Leak's fumbles ( one was lost )

Staley took on the blocker, and he was driven back and Moore just stripped Leak all within 4 seconds.
