I see where Coach Gase's father in law, Joe Vitt was just fired by the New Orleans Saints as Assistant Head Coach (spent the past 10 years in that role working for Sean Payton). Joe has had many coaching roles on many NFL teams over the past 37 years.
He doesn't have a high profile but he is extremely experienced. Do you think that Adam Gase and Mike Tannenbaum may consider him for a role with the Dolphins organization?
It is possible that they greatly respect the assessment of old Joe. His expertise is Defense and I think that this is Miami's biggest area for improvement. Maybe in a consulting capacity?

I doubt it. I think promoting from within is the only way they go

Don't like relatives and or besties being hired by head coaches.

Don Shula cost himself 2-3 more superbowl wins by keeping his best friend and morning mass partner Tom Olivadoti around 9 years longer than he should have. When it's your best friend AND church mate, judgment is compromised. Don promoting his son over several much more qualified assistants was another blunder. Don is really the poster child for this kind of thing. All the issues (outside of the neputism issue) the players and some staff had were exposed and vindicated in Cincinnati when Dave got his highly undeserved head coaching gig.

I doubt Rex Ryan was going fire Rob anytime to soon had he been retained and may have been the reason he was booted from barfallo.

Joe Vitt's coaching experience:

Baltimore Colts (1979–1981)
Quality control coach

Seattle Seahawks (1982)
Quality control coach

Seattle Seahawks (1983–1987)
Assistant linebackers coach

Seattle Seahawks (1988–1991)
Safeties coach

Los Angeles Rams (1992–1994)
Defensive backs coach

Philadelphia Eagles (1995–1998)
Linebackers coach

Green Bay Packers (1999)
Defensive backs coach

Kansas City Chiefs (2000–2003)
Linebackers coach

St. Louis Rams (2004–2005)
Assistant head coach & linebackers coach

New Orleans Saints (2006–2016)
Assistant head coach & linebackers coach

New Orleans Saints (2012)
Interim head coach

Don't mix family/friends and business.....latest example the Ryan brothers.

I had no idea Vitt was Gase's father in law.

Vitt is a very experienced coach....but I'm not a fan of hiring family.

You would have to be naive to think Vitt WON'T be on Miami's staff next year. Gase is going to hire him. www.DolphinsTalk.com

Never mix work and personal life. Besides it is in Burkes contract that he will be the new DC. That's the rumor at least but do the math. That's the only reason he moved laterally. He was promised the job

And Miami will need a LB coach and Vitt has been a LB coach his entire life. Belichick employs his kids. Shannhan employed his kid. Lots of coaches employ family. Not a big deal. Just a LB coach as well, not like its a major role

Fair enough. You don't think he can land a coordinator gig elsewhere?

No. He wasn't the coordinator in New Orleans. Just the LB coach there. He's never been a Defensive coordinator

Isn't the Saints Def bad every year, especially those LB? No thanks.

I don't know much about Vitt, but I have no problem with coaches in general hiring friends or family if they're the most qualified for the job. I think it would be dumb to hire a less qualified candidate just because another is a relative of the head coach. I would go hiring people just because they're friends or family, but if they can do the job why not?
