Dolphins | Harrington inconsistent; team willing to be patient
Fri, 23 Jun 2006 17:39:29 -0700

Jason Cole, writing for the Sporting News, reports Miami Dolphins QB Joey Harrington has looked somewhat inconsistent during his first few weeks with the Dolphins, keeping up the track record he established during his four years in Detroit. However, the Dolphins are going to be patient with Harrington because he just joined the team. Some of the coaches are troubled by Harrington's tendency to get flustered when plays break down.

And we should be patient with him. The guy went through a mess in Detroit. Some of was his fault, some of it was management's fault. You don't get that out of your system that quickly. He seems to be an intelligent guy and once he becomes more familiar with our offense and truly finds out that the coaching staff here believes in him, his play will improve.

The guy sucks plain and simple. From the reports I have read DC is picking the offense pretty good, that goes to show you Harrington is a complete bust.

No-one is expecting Harrington to be Culpepper

besides that just means Culpepper is ahead of schedule

It means Culpepper is grasping the offense and Harrington isnt

I am surprised by 2 things
1) Most camp reports didnt notice how bad he is (or this says he is)
2) why Cole waited until today to report it (I always read his QandA at the herald and he never really said this)

I guess maybe Cole got a private interview with the staff today.

maybe that's because Culpepper has been playing in it for about five years...and this is Joey's first MONTH...but that five year advantage...

I wonder if that has anything to do with it being the EXACT same terminology that he used in Minnesota? Trust me I dont think Harrington is a star, but give him time before you call him a complete bust. Besides not like we gave up a lot for him

I'm still not giving my hope up on Harrington yet. IMO, a player should always deserve a chance when he is on a new team and that is what I'm doing with Harrington. If he doesn't improve in TC or the preseason, then I will give up hope.

Or maybe it shows that DC is more familiar with the offense as one might expect him to be seeing as it contains many of the same elements as the one largely put together by Linehan last year, who happened to DC's OC for several years before coming to Miami.
Now, if it comes to the 3rd or 4th preseason game and JH still doesn't seem to grasp the offense and Lemon doesn't appear ready for primetime, then I might start to worry.

Actually it means Culpepper has been in the same offense for years so there's much less "grasping" involved for him. And just because a QB is being flustered under pressure it doesn't mean he has no grasp of the offense. It's June anyway.

he was made that way in detriot and its our job to train him back. we will be patiant and he will earn the trust back and play to his capablity.

Harringtons just pressuring himself. I think he still thinks he's got a shot @ dethroning Cleo for the second spot. By the way things are going, if DC isn't ready for Week 1 against the Steelers, it just might be Cleo starting.
