Joey Porter fined 20,000

Knew it was coming...surprised it wasn't sooner...

Joey can say whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't get suspended, and more importanly, keeps producing and playing like a mad man on the field.

Porter makes some great points in the article including this:

"You get fined for not talking to the media if you don't talk. You get fined for talking to the media, giving your real opinion," said Porter, who has contributed 6 ½ of the Dolphins' 13 sacks this season. "I thought we were a country that had freedom of speech. Can't I at least give my opinion?

"It's not like I went out there and said, "Oh, he's a terrible ref. I can't believe he did that. He cost us the game. I didn't say any of that. I said I though the play should have been reviewed. And I pointed out it was the same crew that was out there when all the other stuff happened. Those are the facts.

but he sounded dumb right here:

"You going to fine me $20,000 for that. I could help my family out with that money. My brothers and sisters could use that money. I definitely don't agree with it."

thats just Joey being Joey...

evrythign he siad made 100%%%%%%% senese including the last part u didnt think so. he means it in the sense that 20k's he wasted giving to the nfl he could have given to the family. im assuming u think its stupid b/c he has more $ obvously but still the point is its money being wasted. kind of the pricniple of it is what he means.

We live in America right? If I was Porter, I would take them to court and counter sue the NFL preventing my freedom of speech. I'd hit them with a million dollar lawsuit!:enforcer:

The problem is he is part of the players union that agreed to a collective bargaining agreement that has all this stuff spelled out ironclad. It's like a gag order or a non-disclosure agreement others might sign at their jobs. It's the NFL's ball and you have to play by their rules...like 'em or not.

I had the perfect line for him to repeat over and over again every time the press asked him about this.

"I calls em like I sees em" and act like the money was no big deal
:woot:

the league is seriously getting ridiculous with this crap
I agree. Sadly, the only ones that can change this are the fans. If people stopped showing up to games because they can't get to see a player do a dance after a touchdown, that rule and the fines would stop really really quick.

I think his official response should be a very vanilla "We played hard, both coaches did a great job, the refs were right on top of all the calls, the Commissioner is doing a great job, i am happy/disappointed that we won/lost. Thank you all for coming." He should repeat this word for word and say nothing more. Couldn't be fined, and the message would be very clear to the league, the media and the fans.

Somone's grasp on the Constitution is a little tenuous.
