Joey Porter Rebutal

$20 million is a lot of money, no doubt. But the true guaranteed money is in a $12 million signing bonus.

Silly statement. $20 million is guaranteed. The other $8 million not paid at signing still has to be paid if for some reason Porter doesn't play. That's why they call it guaranteed.

Yes Porter had 7 sacks which is in line with his career average, but six of those came in 3 games!! I think Porter is still a good player, but based on last year he isn't the guy he used to be. Anyone that says different is ignoring the facts.

Great read!
Lots of info I found very interesting.
It amazes me how facts can be turned into biased BS so easily.
This part of the article says it all:
"Also, Porter is clearly an upgrade over Donnie Spragan. Any upgrade you can make to your team is always a good thing. Additionally, which free agent on offense was worth signing over Porter? You have guards getting $49 million contracts. Guards! There is no marquee wide receiver or quarterback available. Porter was the best player available in free agency, he fills a need, and he fits right into the system Miami runs. "

Reading the thread title I expected Porter to respond to pleading guilty to whipping that fat boy's striped butt.

I'm satisfied with this response from Cam. Same thing I think we tried to bring with Jr Seau.

Q: How do you feel about younger guys taking to LB Joey Porter?

A: “Again, none of us are perfect. At the same time, Joey Porter is a leader. There’s no two ways about it. He’s a born leader. He goes out there, he practices hard, he loves football. Football is important to him. He’s all about football. He’s all about family. Once you meet his wife – I know most of you haven’t, I have been fortunate to do that and his kids. He’s not afraid to speak his mind. I like guys like that. I’m not sure I want 53 of them, but you’ve got to have some guys who are pros and know this business and know what it’s about. We’ve got enough people around Joey as well. I’ve told you before; I’m thrilled he’s here and he really adds a lot to this business because it’s a grind and guys like that just make it enjoyable. And then they can go out there and back it up. You like to think that’s going to rub off on the players. You’ve got to be able to back it up and he can do that.â€Â

I think for his final talking point, he means 60 sacks and 10 interceptions, not 60 tackles.

good read. Now that the initial free agency signing frenzy is over and so is the draft, Porter is a solid pickup for us. The naysayers say he's overrated, declining but offer no alternatives. Don't be afraid to show your stupidity, we're all friends here. What else should we have done instead of signing Porter??

Signing Poter was fine but hey should have held onto Carter one more year to see how thing pan out with the youngsters!

Keeping Carter for that reason was not a viable option at the time. He was due a roster bonus and couldn't agree on a restructured contract. This is Roth's third year and it's time to see what he can do.

The fact is that our offense is in a learning / building curve and won't match up with the more elite offenses around the league. But, if we can have the premiere defense with at least a fairly competent and consistent offense we stand a chance to be competitive.

Having Porter, Zach, Taylor and friends reeking havoc upon opposing offenses will be great fun to watch, sells tickets and might even get the Fins more prime time exposure if they do come together and dominate.

Porter=Smart Move / Good Pick-up
