This comes from the Palm Beach Post.

Every few weeks brings another rumor that the Dolphins are interested in trading No. 3 quarterback John Beck — and that still could happen if Miami selects a QB in the April 25-26 NFL draft. But according to a league source, Beck has every intention of being a Dolphin next season.
Coach Tony Sparano made it clear in his remarks at the NFL owners meeting Tuesday that he has no plans to give Beck much of an opportunity in training camp this year.

Sparano said Chad Pennington has earned the right to return as the starter and Chad Henne will get the vast majority of reps in training camp and the preseason games, and could be in position to challenge for the starting job in the near future.

I would be very happy holding a clipboard all year and getting paid what Beck makes.

hes ok with it cause it tells him he wont have to go on the field

Damn one minute this guy is our starter and now he's "OK" being a third stringer? This guy's self esteem has taken a huge hit.

You know I watched that damn "Book of John" highlight video of Beck at BYU on youtube like twice after we drafted him. What a waste of time.

That is a big difference between Henne and Beck. Henne reportedly will not be satisfied being just the #2 QB and wants to prove he is capable of being the stater. Beck on the other hand is just fine being the #3.

That is why Henne is the future starter, and not Beck.

The John Beck experiment failed on so many levels - some his fault, some not.

But he's about as good of a 3rd stringer as you'll get (and his price tag isn't that bad) - dedicated, good study, still wants to learn. Unless you're going to replace him with Pat White (who could be used as an offensive weapon at multiple positions and in the wildcat), Beck's knowledge of the system, work ethic, and price-tag still makes him the best option for us at 3rd string.

This is why all the talk by a select few about Beck still having a future as a starter should be rendered moot. His self esteem and confidence are at the lowest possible level, so low that he's happy just being barely average. For me, that doesn't show me that he has the tools to carry himself as a starter. A starting quarterback in the NFL has to have a short memory, the ability to dust themselves off, and get up for the next play. Coaches need to see that, teammates need to see that, and when they don't see it, it is more than likely that they'll never see it.

It's like Bill Parcells has always said: "If they don't bite as puppies, they won't bite when fully grown." Beck just doesn't have that "bite" anymore, if he ever had it, for that matter.

I'm sure it's not. I'm sure John's just putting on a good face because thats the way you handle a situation that you really don't control. Fact is Chad Henne doesn't have to try nearly as hard as Beck to earn the backup roll. TS and JI have to work together to assure their relationship is successful in the future. How would it look if TS didn't do everything in his power to make the players JI drafts successful? Not good, and not likely to happen. The QB situation only favors one person right now and that's Henne. Neither Beck nor Pennington will be given a fair shot at the future of this team. Henne may be more talented than Beck he may not be, but one thing is for sure Henne won't have to flat out earn the spot, he earned it by simply being drafted by this regime. It's not really hard to see the plyers this staff went out and signed are listed above a player they didn't sign. If anything it just reinforces the theory that Becks ability to play has nothing to do with his position on the depth chart.

It's entirely possible that he just didn't want to complain to the media (something that the Tuna hates) and is waiting patiently for his opportunity.

To me, that's the kind of mentatlity that crumbles when the game is on your hands. If he were the starter, would he WANT to be the starter, or would he be doing it just because the coaches like him as the starter? In this case.. it seems like it would be the latter.

The title of this thread is in my opinion misleading. The article says that Beck intends to be a Dolphin next year. The article also says that Sparano is not going to give Beck much of an opportunity in training camp. I certainly understand infering that Beck is "OK" with being 3rd String, but that is far from the only legitimate reality. Beck put forth considerable effort last season to win the starting spot. He didn't manage this, but it doesn't suggest to me that he's content to just ride the pine. He is under contract. Beck may be out to prove the coaches wrong about him. I do not know Beck and I do not know his personality, but I feel the title of this thread sells him unduly short.

OR

It's entirely possible that his confidence is a million pieces right now, and he's come to the realization that the best he'll ever be on this team is the third guy. Because deep down inside he knows he can't beat Henne or Pennington in competition.
