Here's a report on BYU's John Beck I wrote before the draft for an NFL scout by the name of Dan Shonka-he is the director of ourlads scouting services. Anyways, if you Dolphins fans want to know about John Beck, check it out. I think he's going to be phenomenal and he was my favorite prospect in the 2007 NFL Draft. Feel free to drop me an e-mail at wadepeery@yahoo.com with any questions or comments.

Welcome to DOLPHIN NATION, and I am thrilled the PHINS took Beck in the 2nd, I think he could easily be the steal of this draft!! He's a stud and not afraid to hang in the pocket and his accuracy is awesome!

Great write up! I read somewhere that he had a 92 mph fastball and the baseball coaches were always after him. I also read that Brett Favre throws the pig skin at 60 mph, which translates to around 94 for baseball. But 61 at the combines and second best--amazing. Let me guess Russel was first and I don't think he will be as accurate at Beck.

believe me i was steaming after we passed on quinn and still to this moment i would rather have him but im sold on beck now. now if he just wasnt so damn old.:D

If Beck turns out as good as Steve Young, Dolphin Nation will be happy campers. You think he's got that kind of talent?

He's coming into a tough situation being a potential successor to Marino. Do you think he's up for the challenge? Dolphins fans are absolutely dying to get their hands on another awesome QB like Marino. That's the main reason why people were upset about us picking up Ginn yesterday. They probably like Ginn just fine. The thing is everyone was looking for the "next Marino". We're tired of being one of the "have-nots" in the NFL at the QB position.

Actually the fastest throw at the combine was a DII kid. Russell never threw it.

I think he has Steve Young type of talent, but Steve Young is an entirely different type of QB than John Beck. Young was one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the history of the game and was the best white scrambling quarterback the game of football has ever seen, in my opinion. So, everyone in Miami is looking for the "next Marino"? I agree he has a very tough act to follow in Dan Marino, but I think the Dolphins management showed how good they think he is going to be when they passed on Brady Quinn and took him in the 2nd round. He'll definitely be the best quarterback the Dolphins have seen since Dan Marino... will he be as good as Dan Marino? That's a tough burden to put on anybody's shoulders, since Dan Marino was one of the greatest quarterbacks the game of football has ever seen, I would put him in the top 10 of all-time. Beck will be a legend, Miami just needs to get him on the field as soon as possible.

I,for one,am very pleased with what Cam is doing.I too,was as surprised as anybody when I saw Brady falling into our laps. After what we've been through the las 10 years or so,I can understand and appreciate how my fellow 'Fins are feeling.Saban was kinda the last nail in our coffin.Anyways, the more that I hear and read on Beck.........the more enthusiastic I find myself becoming. You guys know as well as I,that our "D" will be near the top of the league. Now it's up to Cam to put the ball in the endzone....and I truly believe he will.Capers will make sure that our boys will keep us in games.Even Brady(Tom)came into the league not being nearly as touted as his draftmates. He is arguably the best at everything when it comes to being a complete QB(minus freakish arm strength)........Again......like Beck.I don't know as much as some of you guys, but I have a passion for our beloved pigskin. And win or lose, come hell or high water,I bleed aqua/orange.....I AM A FIN4LIFE!!! I also am one of Boomers biggest fans.I always look forward to his thoughts.I love all of you guys like my own family......Cam will make things right! Have faith fellas!

No offense, the guy sounds great, but who wrote up the weakness section? His Grandpa? They didn't even mention that maybe how the pounding a QB takes in the NFL could hurt him more easily than say Russell or Quinn?

I live in Colorado Springs and regularly watch Mountain West Conference Games, primarily the Air Force Falcons. I think Beck is going to be a great QB and I am happy we took him over Quinn. Quinn got all the love because he went to Notre Dome. I think too many analysts are blinded by the reflection off the golden dome at ND, and not critically evaluating Quinn, who has a very average arm and not a lot of accuracy....especially on the long pass.

Nice write up!!!

Welcome Wes!!! Great writeup. I was happy with Beck but after reading this I'm just thrilled. I saw Beck interviewed today and he seems humble, intelligent and very passionate about football. Beck to Ginn is going to be tough to stop!!! Thanks for coming to our site and making the piece available. Alot of us are sick we didn't get Brady Quinn. Your piece is good medicine.

I disagree, Young failed on a team with little talent as you have to say the Dolphins have now judging by recent history. Beck will have to be more capable of shouldering the load.

I also disagree about replacing Marino. He isn't. He is replacing Lemon who replaced Harrington, who replaced Culpepper, who replaced Feely, who replaced Fiedler... get my point. I was a fan during the whole Griese and Marino eras and I don't see one thing having to do with another. We as fans just want the position filled by a compatent player.

Noone is wanting Beck to fail or Ginn for that matter. I think we just want to see the light at the end of the long dark tunnel and this draft didn't provide much hope of that.
