I am from Utah and yes a "mormon". I have seen every single game of john collegiate carreer. He will be very good. Quin is over-hyped. Airforce safety who played agains both beck and quin stated that beck was the better qb with his ability to look off safety's and accuratly hit the open reciever. Beck carved up TCU's defense who was top ten nationally ranked when they played. He's second behind Ty Detmer in total passing yds at BYU in front of steve young, jim mcmachan, marc wilson, robbie bosco, steve sarkesian (BTW Ty is second all time nationally in total yds).I'm telling you Beck will be good. In fact 21 teams thought quin wasn't all he was hyped up to be either. Beck is a steal. Why? because he played at BYU, how many times have you ever heard of that school, nobody knew about him, he wasn't hyped hardley at all. I just moved out here and you will not be disapointed. Just give him one year to soak up the system. Oh and as far as his age, ask steve young if that mattered when he started when he was 32!

hint; there is a reason those guys are Air Force and TCU safeties.

as for Steve Young, he was already a proven pro in the USFL when he came to the NFL.

and "21 teams" didn't have a need for a QB, having a franchise QB already or having recently drafted their QB of the future. with the cap teams cannot afford two first round picks at the QB position even if they want to.

you may notice you didn't hear many names from Notre Dame drafted yesterday, especially on offense. not many OL, or skill position players. because Quinn carried that team for three seasons. Jeff Szmardjia would have gone in the first three rounds, but he is playing basbeball.

however, next season BYU will have another QB who will put up garish stats in their SYSTEM, and never amount to much in the NFL. Steve Young is the only BYU QB to be a statistical stud in the NFL. Jim McMahon was decent, but he won a Super Bowl because he had Walter Payton, and an amazing defense.

for every Steve Young you show me out of BYU, i will show you 2 Detmers; career backups.

You mean TCU's top ten nationally ranked defense!

I never said airforces safety was good, he just made the comparison between beck and quin.

The browns passsed up on quin. Oh and so did miami!

Are you trying to say that ND qb's are better than other non-bcs qb's because he played for ND?

No not all byu QB's "garnish" any kind of stats! The comparison isn't byu qb's to ND qb's, it was beck to quin, stanton, edwards, kolb ect..

And what do the Golden domers have? To negate what Montana did, there is Rick Mirer, Ron Powlus, Jarious Jackson.

There were 2 Detmers in the NFL. Koy (Ty's bro) played for Philly but went to Colorado for his college career.

NC; I agree w/ U and welcome aboard. Its good to have one more from the 801 on this site.

I am not a John Beck fan. He is a little small, his arms strength is a little inadequate and he is the oldest rookie ive ever seen. 26! what the h*ll! i seriously doubt that he will start this season so he'll be 27 when (or if) he starts the following season. Thats about the same age as David Carr, Michael Vick, Joey Harrington and (when we got him earlier) AJ Feeley.

i personally am tired of going after quarterbacks the WRONG WAY! why do we always go after washed up merchandise (Daunte Culpepper, Gus Frerotte) or unheralded projects (AJ Feeley, Cleo Lemon, Sage Rosenfels, Ray Lucas)? Why cant we fit the mold of most successfull NFL franchises and DRAFT a quality first round quarterback? Thats what we did with Marino and the decision to pass on Brady Quinn will haunt the Dolphins franchise for years to come.

He's 6'2", there are not a many 6'5" qb's in the nfl. It would have been nice to get a 6'5" qb, but my point was that I've seen beck play every game and he is good.

utahfinfan sorry I can't pm you back until I got 50 posts. Hey we got poloi (I think thats how u spell it). Nice! two utahn's. I personally would rather of had duwayne jerret (man I can't spell). Good to meet ya.

Szmardjia is the only person who made quinn look good. quinn would dump off to Szmardjia for 5 yards and somehow Szmardjia would break 3 takles and pick up 30 yards. makes quinn look good, even though all the yardage was Szmardjia's YAC and very little to do with quinn

True he's not 22 but, if your a half cup full kind of guy you could chalk his age up to maturity. Steve young was 32 before he did anything special in the NFL. But he's the kind of guy that won't take too long to contribute for the fins. He will be good.

he's 25 turning 26...more accurate and better at the deep ball than quinn...u cant say we're doing this the wrong way until we see it on the field....can he be better than quinn??? yes

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think anyone here is all that upset w/ John Beck, and would likely be happy to have him had Brady gone 3rd to Cle and we never had a shot in the first place.

It's just Brady Quinn has everything it takes to be successful in this league from talent to work ethic, to experience, etc. And we were all led to believe he was at the top of our chart QB-wise. And when it worked out that he dropped to us, and then we didn't take him ..... :boohoo:

It was as if the Red Sea parted, and Moses said, "eh, not interested."

I'm sure Beck will be fine, and when the majority of us (including me) get over the shock of Quinn not being a Dolphin, I'm sure we'll enjoy what he brings to the table. He does seem like a Solid QB. I hope so ... for his sake ... and Randy Mueller's .... and Cameron's ....

did you watch him play at all? he doesnt have EVERYTHING, he has a couple of things and ton of hype, but of these qualities that are necessary in the pros hes lacking in 2 really important areas, accuracy and coolness under pressure. just cuse charlie weiss says hes great doesnt mean he is, weiss has a vested intrest in quinn going as high as possible (recruiting tout) we have 2 of the best qb coaches on our staff and they obviously didnt think he had all the things necessary for the NFL so get off the medias high horse that they built around quinn. quinn is essentially the next rex grossman, wait and see

Mormons Rock - In a non-alcohol/caffeine sort of way. Oh & BTW, regarding Beck's size, Brees is 6 ft even.

I am not too worried about his arm strength... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHBy7uIV_iE

That looks like it was about 65-70 yards ACCURATELY! The play was just barely broken up.
