At 26 coming out of college, will Beck have much of a future in the NFL? Going totally on presumptions, it usually takes QB's 2-3 seasons before they get a chance at being a starter, which would mean he would be around 28/29.

I know alot depends on how long Green will be here, but how concerning is Becks age?

I'm not overly concerned at this point with his age. What I think is important to remember is that his body is physically younger than his actual age. He spent two years in a mission and wasn't getting pummeled week after week on the gridiron. I think Beck will be the starter in the 2009 season, but that's just a guess. Even then, we see what QBs like Favre can do into their mid- to late-30s. Right now, Beck's age is simply a non-issue.

I don't feel it is necesarry the age, as much as it is the years in the nfl taking a beating. If he comes into the nfl at a latter age, he should be able to play till a latter age.

as long as we continually develop QBs I dont think BEck will be a problem. Once we get to his mid to late 30's, that's when we had better have done a much better job than we did during Marinos last few years in getting someone to succeed Beck...

I know this is a slow time and very loooong wait for TC to start, but we can come up with better stuff then this. We've been reading these same Beck posts ever since we drafted him!.... anyways.... No, I dont think his age will really matter all that much. What is a couple years, really?

I agree, except that I think he starts in 2008.

A couple of years could affect his development. Beck will have to learn and learn fast as he wont have the cushion younger QB's have. If Beck gets his chance and starts off poorly, he wont be given the same time, as more may be expected of him being nearer to his 30's.

I have full confidence that Beck will be a regular for many years in a Fins uniform, I just hope he's a quick learner.

Quality not quantity.

Becks age won't concern me if he has four quality years. I would rather get four quality years than ten mediocre years.

I expect the Dolphins to win 6 games in 2007. If the Dolphins have another losing season in 2008 and Beck is the named the starter in 2009, Beck better play like a vet or Coach Cameron could be out of a job after three losing seasons. The new coach will bring in his own guy at QB like Cam.

look at staubach he came into the league in his late 20's from the military and didn't have much of a problem. lets hope beck has the same type of career.

Trent Green didn't start one game before he was 28. He didn't become a full-time starter for Kansas City until 2001, when he was 31 years old.

I could go on and on about how many successful NFL QBs did not start their careers off after being drafted at 21 years of age, then sat the "requisite" one year on the bench, then started for 12 or more seasons. In a perfect world, yes... but the NFL is anything but a perfect world. Most players, whether they be draft picks or free agents, simply do not make it into the NFL the "obligatory" way, and anyone that discredits a player for not being a by-the-numbers product of their own narrow-minded blueprint is either a fan of a rival team or just plain stupid (if they happen to be a Jets fan... then both apply).

This age issue that keeps coming up for Beck is meaningless in every way but one... the fact that this issue keeps coming up speaks volumes about his ability. People fall all over themselves trying to find something negative to say about any draft pick, and the only slight they can come up with on Beck is that he's 26, and he didn't play at Notre Dame.

He's a gamer. I don't need to check his ID.

Same point I was going to make as well...Players usually end there careers because of wear and tear on the body, not because of just the age "number". Beck wont have any wear and tear so he may very well be competitive until he is wel in his late 30's
