I still believe that John Beck is still the future of this team, you have to understand something, when he came in last year he was playing on arguabley the worst team in NFL history, playing behind a sub-par but pretty poor pass protection offense line, with no wide receiver threats at all and ronnie brown was hurt and not to mention our coaching was horrible, the kid has a quick release, he's smart, mobile, good footwork, we just need to give him time, merril hodge said last year that john beck is by far the best qb in the draft, and he said he was more equipped to succeed than brady quinn, atleast 15 nfl teams had him rated higher on there board than quinn, he studys the playbook religously and alwys has his wife quiz him on plays, mark my words John Beck is going to prove everybody wrong this year....just watch
Where do you work and what do you do?
Would you be willing to risk your job on John Beck being the QB of the future for this team?
If you are intelligent and honest, there is no way that you could say "yes" to that question.
I "hope" that John Beck is the next Fran Tarkenton. I hope it like hell. But we have to draft a QB and we have to draft one early. We cannot count on either John Beck and/or Josh McCown being our starting QB. I hope they are both great, but to expect it is asinine.
If we can't trade down, I think we have to take Matt Ryan at #1. We need everything, but nothing will matter if we don't get our QB position solved.
And if all three guys are good, then we can trade one. Look at Matt Schaub...all he did was play good in some preseason games and paid off big for the Texans.
If we get Ryan, I would envision the scenario playing out where JM and JB battle it out in preseason and whomever wins the competition is the starter and the other is the #2. Eventually, MR should be #2 and by mid or late season, MR should be given his chance to start. Then we can see if we've solved the position. If not, we have to keep drafting/trading until we get it fixed.
Look at the top teams in the playoffs. The Giants, Packers, Seahawks, Colts, Chargers, and Patriots all have outstanding QBs. The reason the Saints and Steelers have a chance to be good next year is because they have good QBs. Generally speaking, you can have a good QB and suck, but you can't have a QB that sucks and be good.
Until we get a good QB (and we don't/can't possibly know that we have a good one on this team.
