Why are people still so concerned with Beck's age? Even if he takes four years to work out, he will be 30. Which of course isn't incredibly young by NFL standards, but quarterbacks tend to last much longer than other players anyway. Additionally, as many others have mentioned before, Beck doesn't have the usual wear and tear because he was not playing football consistently after high school.
NFL players go downhill after 30 because their bodies have been destroyed on a regular basis in the NFL every Sunday of the season for 7-9 years. When Beck is 30, he will have only had 4 years of NFL wear and tear (considering he's not the next Harrington).

couple of problems as you look at the optimistic side of things which might just happen .But do consider that younger players heal faster ,that is nature and also learning gets tougher as one gets older. When i did my engineering degree at 22 i did not stress as much as now 30.Yes i have more experience but the flexiablity and stimulation required is higher as i age for my brain to process data.

Also, injury if says knock a year or 2 then your projections go off the 30 scale.

If you remember correctly that was one of the upsides to A.J. Feely. That he hadn't had the wear and tear of season after season football contact. This really is a downside, I would much rather have a QB who is used to the contact since age 24 as opposed to an older and inexperience QB just learning how contact affects game play.

You may well be right, but I like to think it just means that he'll be playing till he's 40!

He is not going to play as long as the other young guys. His career won't be four years shorter, but when the players hit the late thirties they decline regardless. His age will probably cut his career by about two years in comparison with the other guys.

But if he is good for a short time (Steve Young) no one will wish we picked a guy who was bad for a long time (Vinny Testaverde).

If we get to the point where his career being two years less than the average draftee is an issue then I will be happy because that means he will have stayed with us for longer than any QB since Marino.

My apologies for the dual post. I hit "tab" to indent and didn't know it triggered "post".

Steve Young didn't start til he was 30 and he did pretty well.
