According to our sources in Jacksonville, the Jaguars plan to ramp up negotiations with DT John Henderson, the only coveted unrestricted free agent on the roster. Henderson, we're told, is seeking a five-year deal in the $30-$35 million range, which would place him in a similar tax bracket to fellow DTs Marcus Stroud and Shaun Rogers. Defensive coordinator Mike Smith sees the defensive line, in particular the tackles, and the middle of the defense behind them, with MLB Mike Peterson and SS Donovin Darius, as the keys to Jacksonville’s defense. If Henderson isn’t re-signed by late February, the Jaguars are said to be willing to use their franchise tag to keep him. Jacksonville had designated Darius its franchise player for the last three seasons but reached agreement on a four-year contract with Darius prior to the 2005 season.
