Peter King: A “real chance” that John Harbaugh doesn’t sign an extension with Ravens

usa_today_11889985.0.jpg

The head coach is in his 11th year with the Ravens and has garnered a great deal of success. Since taking over in 2008, Harbaugh has a 103-72 (.589) record in the regular season and a 10-5 record (.667) in the playoffs. Adding in a Super Bowl win during the 2012 campaign, Harbaugh would’ve likely been a hot commodity in coaching searches this offseason.

The Green Bay Packers recently fired Mike McCarthy and the Cleveland Browns did the same with Hue Jackson. Other jobs that could also be open are the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals and the Miami Dolphins.

The only potential problem I could see is if Ross doesn't blow up the FO. John has been coaching in Baltimore, who has an excellent organizational structure.

I would definitely give him a shot. Not sure what would attract him to us though. He will have several to choose from. Who knows, coaches often take a year or two off after a run like that.

Well, we KNOW John Harbaugh won't be bringing Flacco with him NOR would he retain Tannehill. That's a solid foundation for mutual interest.

"real chance" Harbaugh doesn't sign extension....

But he is on contract through 2019 season. We'd be giving up something of significant value to get him on board now. Definitely worth putting some feelers out but probably Baltimore will be asking for the arm with the leg at this stage to where a deal most likely not feasible.
Now if it could pull in an Ozzie Newsome to, maybe they could have the arm. But highly doubt this scenario is possible but nice thought....

What would attract him??? Seriously? People! This is the world. MONEY! Would attract him, or, any other prospective coach. If Ross pays more he probably gets who ever he wants.

Ross needs to ask John how much is it going to take and pay him that amount. Plus, blow up the FO!

True, but Ross is not the only owner with deep pockets. My question was more about pieces already in place, that would give a guy like him the best chance for success.

For example, Cleveland can't hire a successful experienced HC no matter how much they are willing to pay because....well, its Cleveland.

These guys already have enough money that several generations of their families will never struggle, long after they go to that big game in the sky.
