according to boomer rashaad johnson S from alabama is on NE radar big time. this sucks hes one of my favs in the draft and not someone i wna face 2 times a year.

Its too early to tell , 3 day before the draft mayo name came up out of nowhere in newengland sport talk radio and saints trade. so its too early i will believe a day before the draft but not now.plus merriweather is already a good safety and i will suprised if another first is used on safety when OLB and Gaurds are in need.

I thought Mayo was going in the top 10 and said so for a while. It was no surprise that the Patriots took him at all and it certainly came a lot further away than 3 days.

did you post a mock draft last year ? i'm just curious to see how accurate you are, you've been able to feel some moves no one could imagine (ted ginn for example)

if you have an archived mock draft i'd like to see it !

They actually have a couple good developing OLB in Vincent Redd and Shawn Crable. Both have pass rush ability and are decent against the run. They also run well for guys there size, they just both needed to get a little stronger and learn to play the OLB position in a 3-4 system. I don't expect the Patriots to draft anymore then maybe 1 OLB.

Guard maybe because Logan Mankins is the only real talent they have at that position thats still got a lot of years left.

I expect the Patriots to go CB or S in the 1st round because Rodney Harrison is not gonna be back and there corners are just not that good.

i agree with you, i don't see R.Johnson as a possibility in round 1 for the pats ( even though boomer mentionned they were interested ), if they are looking for a guy back there, names like Nic Harris, William moore pop out, as contenders for harrisson's replacement

both would be a good 2nd round pickup for them. But i moreso see them going cornerback or with cushing in the first round

I think the Patriots draft Alphonso Smith or DJ Moore in the 1st round and take William Moore in the 2nd round. Just a guess.

I did and it was horrific. Mock drafts are just that. Mock. Some years you looks a genius and other years you look a doofus. Last year I certainly came away in the doofus category. Other years, erring towards the other side. I'd rather let the player evaluations as a whole define who I am and what I do rather than the 'throw a few names at a wall and see where they stick' prognosis of a mock draft.

;)

fair enough, but there are a few out there who exercice some precise mocks... i remember landing on this "mock rating chart" where a lot of "gurus" like mayock, kiper, mc shay, etc and other guys like bloggers scott wright or the guys at draftguys.com belonged in that list... some of them were pretty precise so i don't think it's THAT farfetched, but i totally agree that evaluating players and seeking where they would fit is more insightful and interesting

i hope you'll be in the chatroom come draft day, what i like to do is try and predict each pick as the draft unfolds... it's easier to do but it's more interesting than pitching a mock and knowing it won't hold together once you got one player wrong, then the whole thing becomes a mess lol

Let them have the mighty midget in the first round. All the power to them, at #23. He's got skinny legs and he makes up for it by not having good speed. He looks like a chihuaha trying to nip at other players' heels when he gets close to the dog pile.

I'm not a big fan. Guy has instincts and he's well coached, you would really expect that from a Nick Saban system...but give me a Chip Vaughn over a Rashad Johnson any day, and I don't even have a super high grade on Chip.

i agree that coaching has a lot to do for his success, but i don't think he's that "overrated", if he is overrated by anyone that is ... what you see is what you get, and his upside is limited so you really know what you're getting especially when you watch tape, a quality starter will ball skills and a reliable tackler.

drafting him at 23 or 25 would be a reach, but i'd be pretty satisfied if he would become a fin in round 2 though...

I'd rather stay away from him in the second round. He doesn't have forcefulness. He doesn't match up well with the bigger NFL receivers. With his size I don't even think you're going to get a great pass defender. You're not going to get someone that will make a receiver think twice about going over the middle. There aren't a whole lot of matchups on the deep sidelines against Randy Moss, Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson or Marques Colston that I imagine him winning, for sure.
