Jonathan Martin Shares Personal Pain, Admits Multiple Suicide Attempts

I dont want outstanding citizens playing OG. Incognito was a tool and a douche and a pretty good guard. I'll take the baggage

Well you can take it to Buffalo, because that's where he's playing now. Dude was a locker room cancer and not much of a player. Good riddance.

I completely respect people with Mental health issues and certainly hope the kids seeks out the proper help.

But he was VERY sober when he decided to throw the entire Fins organization under the bus to make himself look like the victim in a situation that he thoroughly took part of.

He's also been proven to be a big liar and I don't have sympathy for him. At some point accountability needs to happen for your issues and not acting like a big baby and ruin the lives/careers of people/teammates along the way.

He could of shut this all up A LONG TIME AGO when everybody was calling it "bully gate" . . . he could of said "No, I have mental health issues and I wasn't being bullied". He took the stance of a lawyer and a victim from day one (with his lawyer parents) . . . and I can't trust anything he says anymore.

So yea, **** Jonathan Martin . . . stop seeking out attention and handle your business.

The guy has major depression and had a substance abuse problem to try and numb the pain.

I find it hard to believe you don't know anyone who has been in that same boat, it's not pretty, they make mistakes constantly, and it usually takes years before those people admit there problems and find help. I can't count how many of my military friends went through the same thing.

Most people never get the proper help. I'm not making excuses for him, but the guy loved football, and tried to make it work, it didn't, now he's getting help.

This whole tough guy act people here are trying to project is pathetic. And I truly hope no one they know ever has this happen to them, because that just "tough it out" mentality doesn't work and is bs.

More soldiers kill themselves when they come back from Afghanistan and Iraq than soldiers who died there while at War. Depression isn't a fkin joke for you people to point your fingers at and stand on some sort moral pedestal, stop that nonsense.

This is spot on and holds far more truth than many want to accept about the situation.

There is no ****ing truth about it at all.

A little more than 30 veterans attempt suicide every month, according to a 2010 report by the Veterans Affairs Department. Of those, only 18 will succeed. You're telling me you think the other 12+ are fake ass attention whoring? GTFOH.

It's dumbass stigmatizing like this that is part of the problem. Stop it.

If any soldier read u comparing them with jonathon martin they would be disgusted. Soldiers that were in war being compared to some rich kid with no friends who got a scholarship to STANFORD then made it to the nfl is one of the worst comparisons. Its not even close. Those soldiers saw people die and jonathan martin didnt have any friends in high school.....

To clarify, I was referring to those that talk about it for mere attention as opposed to the attempts, not successful vs unsuccessful attempts. There's clearly something mentally wrong with both individuals on either side of the spectrum, but I have a hard time sympathizing with the Martin types who are clearly seeking attention rather than actually contemplating suicide.

Martin has had a gun to his head on several occasions (if you believe Incognito's dad). In either case, it's not your place to pass judgement on who is "for real", as it were, and who just wants attention. That's just gross. Even if you might identify someone who's pretending what exactly did that minor extension of empathy cost you? Especially compared to what you might do to someone who's really on that razor's edge and is scared to talk about it for fear of being labeled an attention whore because our culture has its collective head up its ass about mental health.

All I see in this thread is a bunch of butthurt Dolphins fans who look at Martin as nothing more than a guy who hurt the team so they don't give a **** about him as a human anymore. If Jonathan Martin committed suicide tomorrow they'd stand up and cheer or laugh about it. And that's sad.

I think we all know the fact that not everyone will share one's personal opinions on matters or even closely agree, especially when it comes to social issues. I struggle with that concept every day which is pretty obvious with a thread I started earlier today, but it is what it is; so be it. Apparently so do you considering the "butthurt" comment. I also know that I am far better off straying from the political matters on this board (I'm sure many can come to agreement on that ). I'm here for football talk, so I'm going to stick to that and move on.
