I just found out that he may need toe surgery which could cause him to miss 4 to 6 months (link: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/headlines.aspx?sport=NFL) This is absolutly going to kill his draft stock. Now I think this moves him to a 2nd to 3rd round prospect.

I originally did not want to draft him, but if he is sitting there in the 3rd round, how do you say "no"? He could be a huge help for our franchise in the future and an insurance policy if Brown can never recover to pre-injury form.

3rd round??? That's nuts, probably will fall a couple of picks, not rounds.

That said... if he did fall to the 32nd pick, I wouldn't be totally against taking him. Ronnie Brown and Jonathan Stewart would be a NAUGHTY combo!

All i know is this is a stacked year for running backs and there will be a few studs in the middle rounds, last time the draft was considered deep at rb parcells drafted marion barber in the 4th.

Even before this news, he didn't seem like someone a team would gamble on in the 1st round, too many injuries.

He had a broken ankle in high school.

Then in 2005, as a freshman in college, he was limited to 10 games because of an ankle injury.

"A series of ankle injuries throughout 2006 was the main culprit preventing Stewart from cracking the 1,000-yard rushing barrier. The second-team All-Pac-10 choice was also hampered by rib cartilage damage, a chest muscle strain and a neck strain as a sophomore."

"Stewart battled a turf toe injury, an ankle sprain and a hand contusion in 2007."

To his credit, he still put up really excellent numbers, but it makes you wonder how he'll do in the NFL with all the pounding. It wouldn't surprise me if he had a career like DeShaun Foster.

Personally, I don't believe we'll draft a Rb anyway, too many other holes. We'll probably just target a couple, and hope to get one as an UDFA.

If he really needs this surgery, i can't imagine him dropping past round 2. The saints took Meachem last year at like #27, knowing full well he was going to need to have surgery on his knee, and it would keep him out of camp.

Good point. Yeah I don't see him falling out of the 2nd either, it's hard to see him falling out of the first even IMO.
