Now, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is adding prominent Miami real estate developer Jorge Perez, his close friend and longtime business partner, to the team's lineup.

The Dolphins said Wednesday that Perez will be hired as one of the team's vice chairmen, joining Don Shula with that title.

Perez also had discussions about becoming a minority owner, though those talks are not as advanced.

''I am talking with Ross about becoming vice chairman of the Dolphins and making a substantial investment in the football team as a partner,'' Perez said. ``But it's all subject to league approval.''

Mike Dee, the Dolphins' chief executive officer, said Perez's appointment to vice chairman ''is going to happen and a formal announcement will be imminent. He has been a tremendous asset to the franchise and a tremendous help'' in introducing Ross and Dee to members of the Miami community.

Dee said Shula also will remain a vice chairman, and that it's not unusual for a franchise to have two.

Is anyone else as happy with Stephen Ross as I am? He really shows the commitment he has for the team. Not only he wants the Dolphins to become a successful team, he wants the Dolphins to become a successful business enterprise that contributes to the community (in the form of super bowls and pro bowls).

Huizenga was a nice guy, but with Ross, you have a feeling he's actually trying to do something here.

I was suprised to see the reference to Shula in this article. Did anyone else know Shula still had an official title with the team?
