I am not impressed by VJ work on defense. I know our LBs need a huge upgrade and we played without our best defensive players in Reshard Jones, but we were worse than last year and I didn't like the gameplan against almost all teams. I think we should replace lots of coaches on the defensive side not just VJ. He speaks really well, but on the field the gameplan he installed was very poor. New England without Gronk and we only had to account for Edelman. He destroyed us. Bills with McCoy and Watkins and they destroyed us. The only positive I can think off is 3rd down defense. I think if we loose VJ to a HC job we will be better by easily improving what he did this year.

I will say this. He did a good job vs SD. He recognized tendencies and it lead to INTs

Yes, there were some bright moments but lots of very bad ones

An example was the corner blitz that he sent against the Pats and let Edelman one on one with a safety with a 12 yards cushion. Brady easily detected pre snap and resulted on an easy throw and a TD. Very bad call and there were lots of bad ones all year long. I think Gase improved but Joseph was always bad.

I think the main problem with this defense scheme wise is that we don't hide our intentions. There is no disguise therefore any good veteran QB knows exactly how to beat us right away

In a nutshell: The coverage for the dink and dunk passing was way too generous, which played right into the hands of accurate quarterbacks. If we are designing a team to beat Brady, having the pass rushers get in his face is great, but he will kill that with the quick short passing. You can’t play that soft or your bend will get broke in the red zone. We really have too many starters out to compete with a healthy playoff caliber team.

This example is rediculous, VJ did not tell Rambo to miss that tackle. I wish you and people who agree with this play being a bad one, would stop already. Please educate yourselves before spewing such garbage

That soft coverage is not on the players, that is VJ fault. I know players are injured but scheme is not any good.

If Rambo made that tackle it was already and EASY first down. Considered yourself educated!!!

The problem with this defense is there is no hiding how bad the linebackers are. It literally is like playing with 8 players on defense. When you throw in the injury situation at the safety position it could be more like playing with 7 players on defense.

Our guys do play too far of. Always give too much of a cushion and we wonder why QBs can dink and dunk us to death. Constant completions on short slants etc.

The problem is he was a first year D.C. He was going to make mistakes, and with the lack of talent at linebackers and injuries we had it made the defense worse, now if he does not get hired as a head coach somewhere, he will have the offseason to review each game and with a influx of talent on defense, next year should be a lot better, of course this is just my opinion

I disagree. I think you are being shortsighted here because you point to the areas of obvious weakness on the defense to include the injuries to key players yet you expect better results. VJ has done an admirable job with what he has to work with. Football is a one on one matchup game and once you get down to 3rd and 4th string in several positions, no scheme will hide those deficiencies from a halfway competent offensive coordinator.

I'm not ready to give up on VJ. Heck, we are 10-6 and going to the playoffs with this defense. Yes, it looks ugly, but they have made some big stops when needed and lets be honest, our LB's are the worst in the league and we have had a ton of injuries to key spots. Our "D" line is solid, but when the LB's aren't effective in run stopping, you are going to have problems. I certainly question the cushion our CB's and safeties give to receivers, but who knows, it may be worse if they play man to man and bump them on the line.

I think Joseph needs another year or two to continue building this defense. We need to draft heavy on defense this year as well.

Rambo is the lone deep defender on that play, that's why he was aligned so far off. He's the FS with a got 2/1 read on the fieldside route combo. LB Alonso was the bluffing blitzer who didn't drop to the #2 receiver in time and took a poor angle to get to the short alley there. All around bumble in execution.

1.) Solid logic dude. " I know our best defensive players from last year are gone or injuried but I will blame the couch because he could make chicken salad out of chicken ****."

2.) Really only had to worry about Edelman? We didn't have to worry about Blount, Bennett, or Floyd?
