1st let me clarify that I am a huge Jason Taylor fan. However, I am a bigger Miami Dolphins fan and JT needs to be traded for the benefit of the team. Long term getting a younger player with what ever pick we get for JT is going to be worth it. I hate to see him go to but it long over due at this point.

My bases for this post however is JT’s value to the team if he is kept. I keep hearing people say that he is our best player. How could that be when we really don’t know how Jason is going to perform in a 3-4 defense full time. It could be assumed that he will do well because of his athletic ability. But JT has been an OLB in a 3-4 defense only part time for 1 season. I know I’m about to get a ton of your crazy don’t know what your talking about post but reality is we don’t know how he will turn out in this defense.

Trade him, get what you can and we get younger and more cap room. Jason will always be a Dolphin in all our hearts but give the man a chance to win the big 1.

You can't GIVE him away though, we need some good value back. He brings a tonne to our defense and getting only a 3rd isn't worth the trade. Getting a 2nd and a later pick to me justfies the trade in the long term success of the Dolphins. Anything more then that is just gravey. Don't get rid of him just for the sake of it, make it worth it.

I think the biggest value you get from keeping him is that he can coach up the young OLB/DE we get whether that is Long ,Gholston,Groves or someone else. He still has trade value and though like you i am a HUGE JT fan i believe that the best move would be allow him to move on and GIVING away is a strong term i think we can get a 2nd and a 3rd but i would rather get something along the lines a player (who could play as a starter) and a 2nd that gives a guy who has NFL experience who can fill any gap we currently have and 4 picks on day 1 with a deep draft at alot of positions so win-win

it seems like we're going to hold on to him. Next year his value will be around the same as a bag of Doritos.

I totally agree with you. That being said, I don't take any less than a 2nd round pick for him.

Good post and I agree. I am also one of the ones who would give him up for less then what we may think he is worth.

Obviously I am not saying give him up now. But if on draft day if the best offer is only a 3rd then I most certainly would take it. Makes more sense to trade him for NEXT to nothing then to keep him, not make the playoffs, he retires and we get ABSOLUTELY nothing for him. Next to nothing is always better then nothing.

The moment he went on DWTS and started talking about retirement is the moment he absolutely killed his trade value. Had that not happened I believe we would already have a 1st, maybe more. I am sure we will still get that 1st from Jax.

Maybe a deal like Taylor for Jax 1st and we switch 3rd rounders or something

I think the fact that he was the Defensive Player of the Year that season should prove that if we have to keep JT that he will do just fine as an OLB in the 3-4. If we arent going to get quality picks for him, lets just keep him and see how explosive our defense can be next year with all the offseason moves we have and will be making.

NO, JT stays till the end of his career. That's it. He's a Dolphin for life. I don't want a 3rd rounder or even a 2nd rounder. That would probably turn out to be Matt Roth. No thanks. Turn this thing around in two years and he can go out a winner. Zach's not here because he is a year older and he was having concussion problems.
