Is it just me or did he look alot slower and not as intense in the steelers game as he has been in years past?

Now I like JT, and i think he is one of the best ends that the league has seen since reggie white. But do you think that the foot, shoulder and back injuries are really taking a toll on him.

Last year and years passed he wouldrun down RBs and would defend all over. Last game it seemed he was almost in pain and didnt do much except for that one sack (which was a very nice one i might add).

Now don't get pissed cause im dissing one of the best defensive players in football cause im not. Its just something i noticed.

no i noticed that as well but also from ZT. they both seemed slower and less intense/animated. scares me

I really thought Zach showed his age in that game.

seems like every year it takes jt a few games to get started. he will be fine imo. the big thing to realize is that now with JT playin olb in the 3-4 he drops back into coverage some instead of rushing the passer every down. im not sure if thats really smart or not. i would much rather have jason rushing the qb every play. until i see him makes some plays in coverage i would rather see him rushing everytime.

These guys will show up when the game is on the line.Clutch players. However we must be realistic that their level of play will eventually degrade. Its still too early IMO.

may last post made me think of something.

jason taylor is a geat DE. atleast top 5 in the league. now he is in a transition to learn olb in the 3-4. the question i have is can taylor be a top 5 olb in the 3-4 defense? can he be as good as joey porter? if not u gotta question the use of JT.

i have yet to see jason make plays in coverage and u gotta wonder if his DE worth is being wasted?

I was thinking the exact same thing. but regardless Zach put up lots of tackles. Don't know how much to weigh those stats but other guys need to step up. he was side line to side line all game.

JT seemed a bit slow but I think both will be back with their usual intensity as they both know they can play better.

I dont' think being a few months older was the problem, just a matter of intensity. that should be back for game two.

I would think he looked slow against the run because he was tracking down one of the fastest running backs in the league (somewhere in the 4.3 forty range). As for pass rush, jt looked as quick as usual he was just up against a formidable offensive line.

I've said it before JT is no longer top 5 as DE - no way. There are some animals at DE now and he is not one of them. You can't compare him to a Porter - I think Porter is a big mouth but the guy can play - he can dominate a game - JT cannot. I agree he looked slow and lacked any push on most plays. He was neutralized by 1 guy all game - there is not much need to double team JT - he is too small and doesn't look as quick. You can't say the same thing about a guy like Merriman when he lines up outside. I would love to see Holliday at DE on some run downs to give JT more breaks - Holliday is too small to play DT IMO and JT is too small to play DE against the run. How many times do we have to watch him take his usual wide rush only to get pushed outside and the back has a truck size hole to run through.

What cracks me up is people that think all of the sudden a player is just going to wake up and forget how to play the game, or become slow or weak. Aging is something that is progressive its not just something that one day JT or ZT wont be able to play. Both guys had very good seasons last year and all of the sudden this year they are average or below average.

Porter is not a DE , he is a linebacker.. What the fins need is a blitzing LB like Porter on the other side and that would make JT much MUCH more effective.. It would throw opposing offenses into fits..

JT is not the problem, the problem is we have linebackers who are simply not good at blitzing to take the constant double team off him.

Actually, they haven't gotten it done in big moments in my opinion. Our defense in past years has folded when they REALLY have to stop someone.

As for the topic of this thread, my only concern this moment is the health of JT. He didn't do his usual exultant celebration after his sack. I think he's hurting. The guy is a warrior, but a bad back playing football is no fun. Also, his wife problems may have taken a little out of him. As for Zach, the guy had 12 tackles. It's probably a little too early to start fretting over these guys, but it bears watching in my opinion.

i have to say i disagree, with the fact JT isnt a top 5 DE and that he cant play the run. How can u say Jason Taylor cant dominate a game?? have u watched the same JT as I have the past how many years. The guy can dominate and take over. Maybe not every game but neither does Porter or any other player for that matter. Taylor may be undersized but he defends the run pretty good inside and controls the outside(last week we seen JT bite and get beatin outside, but u dont see that much). Early in JT's career u could easily say this, but JT has had his runstopping ability improve greatly about 2-3 yrs ago.

Well Jt still had a decent rush, maybe not what we hoped but, game one right! (JT is a god, so any less than 3 sacks, many cry foul hmmm lol)

Now as the talk of Zach goes (I was way impressed)

He made his tackles all night, wraped up his guy! But I love how when he goes in, its full speed, that shows when his body whips around his man because he's going full out.
