Crowder's #1 Girl!
I took my camera, notebook, and pen with me and headed down to the training facility - by myself! My pictures are not great (they were not actually allowing pictures so I did a bad thing by doing this haha)
Just so you know, I noted all the little important throws and catches that I saw, so under each drill i'm going to give you a set up on the plays. Also, please don't bash my writing or my photos. I took the time out not only to go there, but to write out drill by drill what happened to help out my fellow FHers to "be there".
Open Receiver Passing Drills
I ended up being about 15 mins late, but I don't think I missed anything. First thing I noticed off the bat was we were 1 QB short. Apparently Culpepper was escorted off the field at the mini-camp from yesterday. Doesn't look good. Anywho - first set of drills in front of where I was sitting were open receiver passing drills. I may have the name on that wrong, please correct me if i'm wrong. The QB's passed to a receiver while the receiver is covered and tries to catch the ball.
- (9) John Beck to (38) Patrick Cobbs, Cobbs looked a little woozy
- (17) Lemon leaned way forward on a pass to (23) R. Brown who caught the pass in a dive
- Beck to (28) Chatman, easy catch and throw very clean
- (45) Reagan Mauia looked GREAT. I was thoroughly impressed everytime I saw this guy's footwork. He could pick up his pace a little, but he darted in and out with ease. I look forward to seeing more out of him!
- Lemon and Hamdan (7) both threw too high several times forcing their receivers to jump for the ball
- (19) Ginn, Jr. caught only 1 of the passes the whole time during this drill.
- (83) Malone looked much improved from May's mini-camp. Malone is the son of the NBA great Moses Malone. He dropped nearly every pass in the mini-camp in May and I was not interested in seeing more of him. He looked much more alert and precise today as he caught every pass but one which was thrown to him by Beck.
Each QB was able to throw at least 5 times a piece or more. These are merely the plays that stood out to me.
One thing I wanted to add was that with almost every pass I saw from Beck it seemed to stay in the air forever. He did have a lot of power behind his throws, but you could see a very obvious difference between the force behind Beck's throws and the force from Trent Green's throws. Green was a much stronger and much more thorough QB. Beck is going to be a nice little pick for the Dolphins, but needs to get some work into his throws.

While this drill was going on I happened to notice a really large man being "reigned" by a trainer. It quite reminded me of those strongman competitions where you see the guys pulling a 16 wheeler. Well, how fitting. It was (94) Keith the Tractor Traylor.
