This is not a knock on Penny, we all love what he did last year, great leader, blah blah blah we know... i just wanted to compile the stats through 2.5 games for each QB and see how we're doing so far comparatively.

Base Stats:
Chad Pennington
51-74 68.9 comp% 5.6 ypa 413 yds 1 TD 2 INTs 6 sacks 76.0 QB rating

Chad Henne
44-67 65.7 comp% 6.7 ypa 448 yds 3 TD 1 INTs 7 sacks 93.4 QB rating

So from that front you can see Henne getting more yardage on less attempts and completions, which is something we figured would happen on his arm strength alone. Also Henne's decision making has surprisingly been fantastic besides that pick 6 vs San Diego...

Offensive Team Stats:
Chad Pennington
2.5 games 776 yards (310.4 ypg) 33 pts (13.2 ppg)

Chad Henne
2.5 games 924 yards (369.6 ypg) 79 pts (31.6 ppg)

Well so far here we've seen a big jump in offensive performance since Henne has been in, in both yardage and points scored, but how does that compare to the defenses both of these guys have seen?

Defenses faced (averages):
Chad Pennington
Overall Ranking - 17.6
Pass Ranking - 13.6
Rush Ranking - 21.6
PPG Allowed - 18.5 ppg

Chad Henne
Overall Ranking - 18
Pass Ranking - 8.6
Rush Ranking - 25
PPG Allowed - 22.1 ppg

So Penny had a little tougher time overall with the defenses he faced, but their defenses may look a little tougher because of their matchup against us when Penny was in there... tough to say with only a small portion of the schedule played, and our offensive output representing at least 20% of how that opponent has performed on the year...

So overall the step back we all feared when moving to Henne actually has been a step forward with our offense SO FAR (thats the key). Doesn't necessarily mean it'll stay this way but as of now, each of these guys played about the same this year and you can see an improvement across the board since Henne took over the reigns. The main improvement I see in regard to the whole team since Henne arrived is in the Red Zone... Henne has 2 redzone TDs already and we are getting TDs rather than field goals, which is really bumping up our PPG.

Anyway just wanted to compile these stats to check them out for myself and decided to share with you guys.

Nice breakdown. I really hope they keep Pennington on to continue to mentor Henne. Nobody can deny his intelligence.

As Peter King said:

"You need a quarterback who can threaten a defense vertically, and for that reason alone, Miami is better off with the strong-armed Henne than the softer-throwing Pennington."

Thanx for the breakdown. Lot of reasons for Fin fans to be excited after what we have seen out of Henne.

yup, thats something a lot of us on these boards have been saying for a while... never a knock on Pennington, just a fact of the NFL...
