I thought Saban was done revamping the secondary for '06. This move just shows me more and more that our 1st pick will be a offensive lineman. I hardly know this guy or ever heard of him. Im not sure why Bell would be resigned then they would go and sign this guy. To me that is like wasted $. I mean you can only start two cb's and saftey at a time and sure you need some 1 who can play in the nickel and dime situations. Im all for getting people for depth but ya think by now we would of have had enough secondary players to go around esepcially with such a great crop of dbs in this years upcoming draft.I just hope the next move they make is not get Harrington...without the trade for Culpepper this offseason has been just ok. I didn;t expect major signings but how mnay dbs is that signed now...four,five maybe 6 gesh..its a good thing we dont need help in other positions such as ol and lb.

At the least Cooper will replace back-up safety Norman Lejune...

Don't forget we went through almost 8 DB's in TC...

SIGNING them doesn't mean they will be on the opening day roster. In his scheme, DB's are a premium. Tell new England that extra DB's aren't important

good point..lets all pray together and hope maybe goodman and cooper will be gone by sept....both jokes...i sure hope we get a cb or safety with our 1st pick

Expanding on the post above. Its more for system guys than it is to plug a specific hole. Nickel situations and special teams are very important. I think our off-season has been stellar. Its not like we're giving up big time money for any of these guys. Have patience grasshopper. The season is gonna be awesome. You'll see.

Re-Sign Schulters and draft a linebacker because ESPNEWS said Lavar wants to stay in the NFC east and that would be the Giants.

Continuing to rebuild a secondary that has lost three key veterans since the end of the 2005 season, the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday signed free agent safety Deke Cooper to a one-year contract, the financial details of which were not immediately available.
In landing Cooper, a four-year veteran who played the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Dolphins add a physical defender who has played both safety spots and who should contend for a starting spot in the revamped Miami secondary.
Cooper, 28, started 12 games at strong safety in 2005 after Donovin Darius was lost to an injury, and had a career-best 80 tackles, along with one interception and seven passes defensed. He also added six tackles on special teams.
In 56 regular-season appearances, Cooper has started 22 games and has 190 tackles, three interceptions, 14 passes defensed and one sack. He started 10 games at free safety in 2003, again filling in because of injuries, and registered 74 tackles. There were some Jacksonville coaches who felt that, in a few areas of the game, Cooper was at least the equal of the more heralded Darius.

Thank YOu, i was thinking of typing the whole thing out lol

i have said in the pasy resigning Shulters would make sense but im clueless on why Saban doesnt want him back. I know $ is the root of it but he was our best defensive back last season and he fit well into Nick system and team attitude.

I believe somebody found something from a Jags fan that indicated Cooper is an excellent gunner. It is certainly possible he was brought in just for that purpose.

Youre totally justified questioning Sabans moves since you dont understand them. Oh great!! Another DB!!! Saban you idiot!!! Seriously, this guys got no idea what he's doing

if not for schulters this team doesnt beat the panthers...he is a team player and i think he be big again for us and have a better year in '06 then he did last season...but i guess we will never find out

It may be that Saban is waiting out Lance and selling that Miami doesn't need him so the team can lock him up cheap when he realizes his services aren't all that in demand.

Just because you have no idea who they are doesn't mean that they aren't any good.
