When we were on the clock @19 Hickey picked the player that was the highest rated on his board. Not the highest rated tackle on the board but the highest rated player. He has been a tageted player to fill our need for a RT. Not a guy that has to learn RT but a guy who played RT at Tennessee and started 49 games. He is a plug and play player and our o-line is almost fixed. We gave up 58 sacks and were 26th in rushing so o-line was more important than anything else. We got a huge guy, team captain, big wingspan who we had a major conviction about. RT solved, could we have traded down and still landed our most coveted player? That's a gamble and after seeing Martin go to Dallas we didn't want to risk James going off the board. Bottom line, Hickey got his man. I think we got an opening day starter! Not sexy but I think we're going to really like this guy.

James will be great and I really wanted him. It was just hard to see the value there at 19. That said, it's often media that hype up draft rankings and pretend to be the all knowing gurus of guys values and when they should go. Most of them just copy each other and too often we see in the first round teams take guys none of us were expecting because the all mighty media hadn't "prepared" us for it. It might just be that teams are better evaluators than media hacks.

I agree. There's no way to know if a team would have taken him before us if we traded down. We can all agree oline was the biggest need. Very similar to Pouncey when he was drafted, when enduro started to say pounceys the pick,
Fans here were so mad. Pouncey turned out great.

I previously posted this earlier.. It's what they were thinking..

Dennis Hickey said "there was no question" Ja'Wuan James was going to be the pick. Dolphins had 13 targeted players in the first round.

"The first thing that jumps out is his pass protection," Joe Philbin said of Ja'Wuan James. "The passing game starts with pass protection."

"We feel like he has very good body balance and control....He's a very good athlete," Joe Philbin said of James.

"We liked his durability. We like the fact he played 49 games in one of the toughest conferences in the country," Philbin on Ja'Wuan James.

Philbin said they felt James can pass block 1-on-1 vs. DEs. Said that's probably No. 1 thing that jumped out.

I find this to be very disturbing. Do we need to overhaul the entire scouting department???? JuWuan James highest rated at #19. That is just absurd.

IMO, last year's draft was the model BPA draft for the Dolphins. NONE of them helped the team.

I kind of knew once Martin was gone (and especially once the LBs were gone) that James would be the pick.

I understand people being mad about the pick (and I'll admit it's a bit of a reach) but if he does his job, who cares?

It's beyond absurd. If Hickey actually said that, it's a flat out lie or Hickey and whatever members of our coaching staff and scouting department that agreed with him are incompetent. James wasn't even close to the best player available when we picked him. In fact, I think the only team that clearly made a worse value pick in the 1st round is Philly.
