Kadarius Toney

I've been watching the USC/Zona game. I have to say, if Miami can't get one of the studs late first or early second, I'm warming up to Amon-Ra. Dude attacks the ball with his hands. One play in particular, in which he came back for the ball... most guys try to cradle it. He attacks it.

I don't mean to usurp this thread, but I don't believe in creating a new thread every time I have a thought. Did you see that catch by Shi Smith?

I’m so proud of Toney, he’s really worked on his craft and developed as a WR. He’s becoming an elite slot Wr prospect in my mind. Trevon Grimes is another guy to watch too as a mid round pick Grimes looks like a good big body receiver

Toney could be a decent slot receiver in the NFL, but if he could pass block just a little I think he would be a really scary 3rd down back in the Darren Sproles mold. Imagine a linebacker trying to cover him running routes out of the backfield. Would love to find a way to get him 10 touches per game.

I am seeing a lot of mock machines grading Toney at the bottom of the first. I know I started this thread and I do like the kid a lot. But anyone taking him that high is taking a huge risk IMO. He had a great year this year and has a unique skill set but it's not a lock that he can repeat 2020 form which was way better than anything he produced before. The value for Toney is round 3 but taking him in late 2nd is a smart move too, anything higher than that you have to have the luxury just looking to add to a already developed roster, going to a Jags, Bengals or Jets or somewhere, or even to us as our only WR draft pick, would be a bad move (combine him with Smith, chase or Waddle though, different story).

I love the idea of teaming Toney with someone like Smith or Chase.

Toney and Smith both get easy separation, which is needed in Miami. I can envision Toney being Miami's version of Edelman in the slot.

He may be a specialist in the NFL but his speed and elusiveness are terrifying.

His floor is a dangerous "gimmick" piece and his ceiling is Tyreek Hill.

I would have no problem doubling up on WR's with Smith/Chase and then Toney/Moore

One in the 1st and one in the 2nd.

RB, OT and LB being the other areas to target early(R 1-3).

A slight trade down from #3 could net them another 2nd this year(hopefully more)that they could spend on another WR, or a TE like Jordan from Da U.

That combo would work well, just don't expect Kadrius to change your offense all my himself, he's not that kind of player. You've got to pair him up with one of those blue chip prospects or a stud FA on the perimeter, Toney is a slot guy who can line up outside, but he's more that type of WR that you throw a short completion to and ask him to gain YAC.

I agree.

A couple of drops for Toney in the 1v1s. Has that been a problem for him this season?

I am calling this now and may be biased as hell but this kid would be a perfect pick up for our Tua led offense. Watch this screen pass he catches at 3:20 into this video for a reason why, btw I love Kyle Pitts too, if he could co-exist with Gesicki (which he can't) we should be all over him.

I love the separation Toney gets. He strikes me as one of those receivers with NE that gave teams fits.

If an offensive coordinator doesn't label Pitts, I think he could fit with another tight end. I view him as a big receiver, who can block better than most receivers. Play him opposite of Parker, as a blocker at times, in the slot. Anyway you slice it, he's a mismatch.

Since I wrote this, I've cooled off a little on the fit of Toney to us, but mainly because of what it will cost to get him. I love the kid but he's a crazy risky pick in the first round, even in the 2nd he's not a sure thing. If I could get him with a low 2 or our 3rd rounder, I would be all over it but he's not going to last that long. I know I need to change my sig :)

I think #18 is a little high. Does he make it to #36, maybe.

I find that still a bit rich considering our other needs, I would personally go Pitts, Smith/Chase/Waddle (trading down and up), then go RB, Edge, LB or C with pick 36. 50 is where I would use the next pick for a WR too many other options on the board for me to want to take a complimentary piece like Toney is, you don't run your whole offense through him. I doubt he will be there at 50 so I would probably look towards one of the other slot guys, and there's plenty of them in this class I feel.

Having said that if they did take Toney at 36, I wouldn't cry a river, as long as they've also brought in other pieces, like I said he's not the type to fix all our problems by himself.
