I know I'm going to get skewered on this one, but I'll say it anyway.

If Cam is installing his offense (he's calling the plays) and is not keeping Mularkey as OC, I don't think its good to have a guy around who was a head coach, who is the old OC, to second guess the head coach. We need to be a team. Is Cam bending over backwards to be a nice guy because Saban was such a prick? (Is Cam keeping Mularkey in part because Mularkey has roots down here?) I don't know, but this does not seem wise. To be head coach, you have to be fair yet firm.

I have nothing against Mularkey. In fact I think overall he has shown to be a good OC.

If the guy can be useful and is willing to accept whatever position Cam has offered him, then I see no reason why he shouldn't be kept. I don't see where you have to be firm and fire him. What has he done wrong to be firm with?

As far as second guessing because he was a HC before then Saban shouldn't have brought him in and Capers should be fired also.

WHy don't you let it play out before assuming. If he does stay it will be as TE coach, not OC. So that is a demotion and a good thing in itself!

As I read your post I thought to myself "this guy is crazy for being so brazen", but then you stated...

... And then I thought "this guy is just crazy."

You may be right. I'm just voicing concern about what it could mean for the Dolphins and about Cam.

I think Mularkey has shown to be a good OC in the past, especially with Pittsburgh. Last year was not his best, by any means.

CAPERS DID A GREAT JOB...MULARKY DID THE WORST OC JOB IN PHINS HISTORY. THIS IS THERE LOWEST POINT PRODUCTION OF ALL TIME.

Mularkeys actually well respected among the league. Believe it or not. If we're just keeping him around to be the TE coach, seriously, whats the harm?

You guys have a point. Maybe Cam is secure enough to not have to fire everyone who may potentially be a threat to his leadership. (Remember Wanny and Westhoff?) That is a possiblity. But dictatorial, hard-nosed guys are perceived to make the best coaches. Then there is Nick Saban.

Based on what analysis?

Also, how do you know Cam isn't hard-nosed??

Cameron looks chicken. Our offense needs a lot hard changes made. If he can't even get rid of a coach whose performance was dismal, where he is he going to find the b..s to do the cuts and trades that need to get done. This is exactly why I was against hiring him. We are in trouble already and he just started. With the retention of Mularkey my hopes for next year have gone way down. It's not that Mularkey is going to effect the team in a bad way as TE's coach but it just shows that this organization is still living in fantasy land like a lot of fans; believing in certain players year after year even though they never produce what they were expected to. And sooner or later things start to snowball downward, like last years offense. I had high hopes for next year with our defense being as tough as it is, but this beginning so far isn't encouraging.

I didn't say they make the best coaches. From observing the sport over the years, I think part of the reason people might think someone is a good coach is because they are a hard ***. I think that was a reason--not the main reason--but a reason most of us liked Nick Saban when he first got here.

I guess it's all a matter of perception, which is what I only can go by.

I have a hard time believing Mularkey is respected around the league. Most Pittsburgh and Buffalo fans that I know were far too happy to see him leave. I think he's a consensus failure and did a terrible job last year (as he should have been expected to do).

If Cameron's calling the offensive plays, then he's serving as both HC and OC. That means Mularkey can't really do much harm anywhere. Position coaches aren't much of a big deal at all.

Mularkey's a bum, but as long as he isn't the HC or OC (which he isn't) I really don't care what they do with him.
