I was just wondering how Kellen Clemens was progressing Jet fans, any chance of him taking over the starting QB position within the next couple of seasons?? Everyone seemed big on him going into the draft last year...

Sure wish I had the answer for this one. It would be nice to know if he's going to be the real deal or not. I'm really hoping he gets a good amount of playing time in the preseason. I don't expect too see him in the regular season unless Pennington goes down or plays so horribly that he gives the CS no choice. If we're down and out early he may get his first audition this year though.

The CS loves him so if Chad slips up we could see kellen. I don't ever want to see him b/c that will mean Chad is healthy and prodcuing but we have a great QB situation w/ a top flight starter(when healthy) and a QB of the future waiting if something bad happens.

Penney sat for 2+ seasons behind Vinnie T before getting his shot as a starter -- he never looked back. I think that's about right for a 1st/2nd round QB to learn the pro-game. I think that Clemens is probably too green still this year to be a starter except in an emergency, but he might do well coming in late in games to get a feel for playing for real in the NFL.

I think the real issue is whether or not Clemens has the "intangibles" to compete with Pennington. Penney's arm isn't the best, but he's darn smart and a good leader who lifts his team and makes it a lot better, which is what makes a great QB. No matter how good a young QB looks in practice, in preseason or in relief, you can't tell whether he's a field general until he proves it on the field -- as a starter.

It always hurts me when I have to agree with a Bills fan, but Kinzua is dead on.

Kellen is a 2+ year project. First year was getting into the system, this year will be wrapping up games and a lot of time in the preseason. Next year, if he has it in him, he will be battling for the job.

As much as I love the Chad, he is not going to last forever and Kellen looks like he is the guy, for now.

Really though, preseason will be fun to watch this because of it.

Are you joking??? Chad's record against top 10 defenses is something like 4-15!!! Reality calling, China doll is half a year older than Tom Brady, and he only last year for the very first time was healthy enough to play a whole season. :sidelol: Jet fans kil me with their non-sense about China doll. :sidelol:

If history is any indication, Clemens will be playing this year. It is an odd numbered year. Chad doesn't like odd numbered seasons. Out of his 60 career games, only 15 have come in odd numbered years. He only averages 5 games played in those years.

I think what's really funny is a Fin fan mocking Chad Pennington when the Fins are considering bringing in a 37-year-old QB to replace a high-priced QB bust with a bum wheel! :sidelol:

BTW, how did that Top 10 defense of the Fins do against the Jets last year? Oh, yeah. 0-2. Man, it's a good thing your team caught the Pats on a bad Sunday or the Fins would have gone 0-6 in the AFCE! :sidelol:

I would think thats funny to, but I'm a Pats fan,:sidelol: and China doll was, is, and always will be nothing more than a second rate QB that can't stay on the field and can't beat good defenses. Sorry but facts are facts.

I stand corrected about you being a Fins fan. I still think that Penney's a pretty good QB. He makes a lot of more out of a lot less than Tom Brady has to work with. :D

Please, Tom Brady won a Super bowl with Antone Smith at RB, J. Wiggins at TE, a WR core that's top three consisted of Troy Brown, David Patton, and Freddy Colman. Beyond that he had an o-line that consisted of two scrap heap Guards that were both cut from their teams in August and signed by the pats, a 2nd round rookie starting at LT, and a 5th round rookie starting at RT. Tom Brady does more with less, and more with more. If Penny could stay heathy he would have a shot a being considered an average QB, for what the Jets have paid him and what he's produced in return, Jet fans should feel like throwing up.
