Keller missed the entire season due to the injury and was placed on injured reserve by the Dolphins. Eight months after the injury occurred, Keller is apparently ready to get back on the football field.

According to Jordan Raanan of The Star-Ledger, Keller’s agent, Eugene Parker, says Keller is “ready to go” right now.

Keller still remains a free agent looking for a team to take a chance on him. However, with just over two weeks to go until the draft, teams may see if they can find help at the position in the draft first before re-evaluating the free agent market.

Keller may have to wait a few more weeks to get the opportunity he seeks. In his last full season with the Jets in 2011, Keller caught 65 passed for 815 yards and five touchdowns.

well he was hardly going to say anything else

if he wants to sign with us for a league minimum deal then fine, but if not good luck dustin

If we don't draft a TE high i'd like to see him resigned if he's 100%. I'd take him over Egnew in a heartbeat.

That's nice but we really need to get a long term solution. I would rather go with someone who hasn't been injured two years in a row.

sign him for a year. this years only weakness in the draft is TE, not a whole lot is there after the first 2 rounds.

I have no problem signing him to a prove-it deal but it wouldn't stop me from drafting a TE

what is wrong with clay?

is the TE position really broken?

Nope but another good pass catcher/ red zone threat there would be nice to have. Sims is a blocker and Egnew is just ok.

If they draft someone then Keller is not needed.

The ignorance on this board astounds me. Clay is not a TE, has NEVER been a TE and will NEVER be a TE! He is a good player but he's a FB/ H-back. We don't have a seam TE/ red zone threat on the roster and we desperately need to draft one!

I've been saying this, but people are content with what they see.

Clay is a very good Hback, like a Delanie Walker. But neither are true TEs.

He's trying to lock something up before the Draft. Ideally we need to get a thorough assessment of his physical condition. He was paid $5M last year and didn't get to see the field in any games because of the terrible injury sustained in the Houston preseason game. He could have been terrific last season but I'd be wary about rushing to sign him just now. Clay exceeded expectations and is well placed to make further progress (and yet he probably only got paid a small % of what Keller received.
My inclination would be to assess Keller vs the Draft prospects, knowing that we already have TE talent.

Of course you guys are right but discussing Keller we are lumping all the bigger guys who catch passes but sometime stay in and block into the same tightend category.

I say sign him up. More competition and with today's medicine, if he's ready, him, Clay and a possible draft pick, we'd be in great shape, if he's back to form.
