It appears that the cheifs will part ways with veteran 3-4 linebacker Kendrell Bell. If he could stay healthy he could be a good boost to the defense possibly replacing Donnie Spragan. Pitt still uses the base defense that capers perfected while he was there. If we start to run more 3-4 i think he could be invaluable.

Big cap # + Not fitting a cover 2 almost guarantees a release...

Should we go after him?

OOps...Wrong Forum...Can mods please move....

That's the problem with Bell. Although he is extremely talented, he is oft-injured. I wouldn't replance him with Spragen. Spragen played pretty well for us last year, and since he rarely gets caught out of position; shows that he's a very smart LB . Julian Peterson is still our best option right now, if we can't sign him, then we should look for one in the draft which happens to be one of the deepest positions in the draft this year.

He has missed 17 games in 5 years. 4 in 2002. and 13 in 2004.

He has good size at 6'1" 245 lbs, and should be in his prime as he is only 25.

With the big contract that Peterson might demand i see Bell as a more "saban Type" pick-up.

Bell is one of those ILBs that cant be that successful outside the 3-4 D. he would not be a good fit here.

With capers here, and taylor healthy it is a good bet we will see much more 3-4 this year...

Kendrell Bell is an ILB is the problem. We have too many of those as things stand. Crowder, Thomas, and Pope are all ILBs. Seau should have been one too but he was forced to move over to the end-of-the-line position because he was the most experienced guy that could do that.

If Bell could play end-of-the-line it would be a different story, but he can't. He's not that sort of linebacker.

I'm thining if Channing Crowder were not here, yes. Since Channing is here, no.

Julian Peterson is the guy to look at. He has experience playing the very same end-of-the-line position that Seau is vacating...in Saban's D up at Michigan State. Otherwise I would try and find some way to come out with either Chad Greenway or Bobby Carpenter. As Boomer said in the zoo, Deshon Polk is a possibility as well.

I heard peterson has lost alot of speed since his injury...Also with San fran out of cap trouble, and almost no talent on that team why are they letting peterson go..is he in the dog house?

not that type of 3-4. we dont have the components to run that defense.

I watched him play up here in Steeler country. When healthy, he can bring it. The sports hernia hurt him in 2004. He is made for the 3-4. He is young. He would be a nice addition for the right price.

I would like Peterson better although there are complications and more expenses with Peterson so...

Why is this in the Draft Forum? Shouldn't it be in the FA forum?

What about Akin Ayodele from Jacksonville? Although the Jags didn't run a 3-4 he could step in and be 3-4 OLB, be a rush end and stop the run.

and he has pretty good speed might i add.

It would be nice if we could work out a deal and keep Bell here. He is good when healthy, and adds alot of depth. S isn't really his position I feel, but he could make a great backup/special teams player, and then use him in different packages too. I just hate letting guys who can help us
