I'm a novice at scouting players so I'm looking for some help here. Why is kendricks that much better then Perryman?!? I've heard 3 down player, but can you filter that for me? Only reason I ask is I remember watching a few miami games and Perryman always seemed to be making plays and I remember saying to myself this guy will be a player at the next level. I can't say I've watched kendricks play much and the highlight tape looks good, being the Butkus award winner.

How does Kendricks compare to the recent ILB takin high in the first like Kuekly etc?!?

Ideally with the Suh talk my chops are drooling for Suh in FA then Parker in first to pair w Wallace for a season then trading up in the second for Perryman.

Kendricks and Perryman are both sure tacklers.... Perryman really applies the pop though. Perryman plays with great instinct and fire to the line, aggressive (sometimes a little too aggressive). Kendricks plays physical as well and great instinct to the line but a little more under control and more technique. Kendricks has more range and ability to get to the corners than Perryman, but Perryman i am not saying Perryman lacks in that area. Both seem to have great recognition pre-snap as well as during the play... Kendricks may need to add more strength at this time, but goes into blocks and disengages pretty well. Perryman does this well. In coverage Kendricks has the upper hand big time, and is able to play 3 downs, and has great knowledge of whats happening around him in coverage and behind him. Perryman lacks this ability, but is better of the other 2 (Perryman and McKinney) who could be coached up more and learn some technique and understanding in this aspect.

I think Kendricks is more of a sound ILB, who has instincts, fills well and makes plays at the line, with ability to get to the outside and make plays. Where as Perryman is more of an aggressive instinctual player who fills well making plays at the line, but doesnt offer as much of the range and struggles in coverage. both great players!!!

You beat me to it Bane. I agree pretty much spot on with what you said. In my NON-Expert opinion, Kendricks seems to diagnose more accurately at the point of attack, putting himself in good position to make the tackle, where as Perrymans diagnosis is more aggressive and therefore putting himself in bad posisitons over running the play and leaving a cuttback hole for the RB. Both are good tacklers and have pop and are both athletic. But I think Kendricks is much more sound all around.

So how does kendricks compare to a Kuechly or mosely?!? Is he worth an early (14) draft pick

Kuechly is a very tough comparison due to how good he actually is

i dont really compare much personally to NFL players, but here is a comparison from cbssports: Compares To: Bobby Wagner, Seattle Seahawks -- Too small for some schemes but Kendricks' instincts, physicality and improved awareness in coverage make him a true three-down defender with the potential to earn Pro Bowl recognition in the right defense.

Kendricks is athletic, but will not be the most athletic LB in the NFL. but once again great work ethic, knowledge, and instincts that he brings. He definitely fits our needs and our scheme... i tihnk he is a definite daft pick we should obtain... trade down once again would be nice if we can... but GB most likely is a definite on him at 30, and i would be worried on Cleveland at 19, and I can see Dallas at 19 getting him as well as Indy at 29

now is he worth the #14.... many will say he would be a reach at that number... but for our need i would take that reach. once again, a slight trade down could be nice to obtain him and another round 2/3 pick maybe... but as stated above i can see those teams also going for him maybe.

and here is a little interview and article with Kendricks if you are interested... i posted it awhile agoin the LB thread below:

ILB- Eric Kendricks- UCLA: just an interview and article below with him if you guys are interested on checking it out:

If the Dolphins sign Suh or another run-stuffing DT, I'd say Kendricks is a perfect pick at #14. There's absolutely nothing about his game I don't like. I see him as a top 20 talent.

I like Perryman as well, but will have to take him off the field in passing downs. Kendricks is great in pass coverage.

I'd take Kendricks at 47. This 14 talk, though, is loopy. If you miss out on Kendricks in the 2nd, draft Hull in the 3rd. Either way, you have a quality, starting MLB. Perryman looks like a 5th round player.

ouch... you just hit Perryman harder than he hit anyone in college!!!

do you think Kendricks would fall to 47 though???

Probably not, but we're not talking about missing out on Patrick Willis. Kendricks is a good LB, but he's not worth reaching for. Draft Mike Hull in the 3rd, who has a very similar skill set.

but the big differences there is where Kendricks reads so well, and instinctively gets to the ball at the line with good angles... you have Hull who can tend to take mis-steps and not great angles. I really think Kendricks just has that special ability, special instincts at ILB that would be tremendous for our team. Even though on the tape you may not be fully blown away.

I'm not saying Hull would be a bad later pick though. He is a solid ILB who does read well and gets to the line, tackles well with a pop, and uses his hands pretty well... can get engulfed by blockers though, and does tend to make mis-steps and poor angles (too aggressive???)

You and I have different takes on Hull. I think Hull's instincts are right there with Kendricks's. As a player, I think Hull is right there with Kendricks. I'd take either and be happy, feeling they'd perform similarly, but I wouldn't spend a 1st round pick on either. Against Ohio State, the best team in the country, Hull willed the Penn State defense along to keep the game competitive - 19 tackles, 2.5 TFL, and 1 INT. He's bigger in mass than Kendricks, just as fast, and likely quicker. He handles O-linemen very well, and he's stout on the goal line. He was named Big 10 LB of the year.

I don't see a lot of people questioning his instincts. I did see a lot of people questioning his size and athleticism. His size is what it is - bigger than Kendricks. His athleticism was underrated. He has great feet, and you see them in coverage, eluding blockers, bringing his feet to tackle, and working through the trash.

I have to agree...I don't see a top 14 player...nor do I think he gets drafted top 20.

I see Green Bay at 30 as the earliest.

The closest thing to the full package in the draft is kendricks. I hope he can physically stand up to the pros, because he got dinged a lot in college.

My personal preference would be Dawson, but I appreciate some people doubt his athleticism and his fit at mike. I would ignore that and have him in the frame with my #47 pick.

If we land Suh and have some decent DT backup, I won't be popular for saying that we might try and make do with what we have this season - Kelvin Sheppard as a 2-down mike and then you have different combos in your subpackages. For example, in certain packages on passing downs, you line Dion J at SOLB and move Misi to mike. We're in nickel a lot also, so that will affect the rotation.

I can see it happening. Don't shoot the messenger.

i agree Hull has great instincts and plays hard like Kendricks... its just a lot of the mis-steps I've seen. he would be a good get though.

i'm still a Kendricks fan... and yeah its tough at 14.. first round. but, i still think he would be worth it.

If we have to get one lAter, I think jake Ryan is very underrated, for whatever that's worth
