Mel Kiper said that Jake Long should be the pick in this years draft or an offensive lineman that is up against any other position player should be the pick when there is no clear #1 pick! The reasoning being that as many of you think that Jake won't make it at left tackle he can at least switch to right tackle and thrive there!! You can't switch Matt Ryan to wide receiver or a rb to tight end or quarterback I agree. He makes the point that when giving guarenteed money you should be as safe as you can at the top and if Jake is not a left tackle(which I think he is) he can at least play another position and not be a busted pick!!!!!

That is somewhat true. I don't care who we get between the two Longs, but we do need help all across the O-line and he would be able to step in and fill a spot SOMEWHERE... maybe it's not LT right away, but it's still not a bust.

If he's not a LT then he's a bust. We already have a good LT but even better RT Carey. Are we about to throw all this money to a guy who we think can't make it at the left side? Highly doubt it, we aren't drafting him to be a RT; we already have a damn good one. It's LT or bust, and if he gets drafted by us, he better get ready to face Seymour and Schobel twice a year.

There may not be Carson Palmer or Peyton Manning on this draft, but there is great talent outside of Jake Long, and it's not like he's rated so much higher than the next best tackle.

yeah but the same could be said about chris long... he can play OLB, he could play DE in the 3-4 if he gains a little muscle... and if the team ever switches to the 4-3, he could be a DE and a situational 3technique ( like justin tuck was for the giants)

some even think he might be able to play MLB but it's too farfetched for me, but the point is chris is as versatile as jake long can be

also like to mention that i want either player on the team, i'm not pro chris or pro jake, i'm simply pro long ;)

Logic says J. Long.... Not too sexy though....

Ok then who plays right tackle for us next season since carey could play left if we don't draft Jake. Please spare me the get one in the top of the second because as many as 6 linemen are predicted to go in the first round. So who plays right if carey is at left?

A lot of guys go home and turn on the tube and hear all the stuff about the left tackle being the most important position in the history of sports and they think that is the end of any common sense in football. Well what if we have a left handed quarterback one day soon (Chris Simms) who protects his blind side? A right tackle does thats who!!! Did I miss the nfl memo that outlaws running plays to the right side? Or the memo that says that blitzing from the right side of the offensive line is now illegal!!!

yeah so true, with teams lining up pass rushers on both side, they are starting to be equally important.

Kiper is idiotic

Lobbying to draft an offensive lineman over another player because there are more positions to play on the offensive line is stupid. If that had any truth to it then every quality offensive and defensive lineman should go ahead of Darren McFadden because they have less of a chance to be busts playing at a multitude of positions.

wow, a good point from Mel... theres a first

sorry buddy but its far from kiper. the first person to say it was i BELIEVE marshall faulk last week and once he said it evryeoen else started saying it themselves. Credit shoudl go to Faulk. he said worst comes to worst u move him to RT, if not then G if not then C. u ahve so many chances to make it work as oppose to neone else in the top 5. he goes with Ryan u cant move him to WR or CB hes done wiht the league if he busts b/c he can play 1 position.
