This is interesting. Prior to the combine he was viewed as the #1 rated LT in the draft, and a top 5 pick. Then, like a T-Rex, he came in with very short arm measurements. Compare him at 32 5/8 with Pat Paul at 36 1/4 arm length (Grier loves the measurables and often seems to value them over production and technique which I guess he believes can be taught) and Armstead at 34 inches. Clearly arm length alone does not instantly make a great LT. Other side of the coin, I saw a stat that nobody with arms as short as Campbell has ever been a good NFL LT, maybe with the exception of one player. The short arm length explains why Campbell could potentially fall this far, because he is viewed as a guard. Worth a shot at #13? We need a guard, you get option value that he might actually be able to play LT (dominant there in college). I guess depends who else is on the board then as well, but net/net this would seem like a pretty solid pick if the belief is that he could also be a day 1 starter at guard at a minimum. If not, they should probably take someone else.

13. Miami Dolphins

Will Campbell, OT/G, LSU

Left tackle Terron Armstead will be 34 if he returns for the 2025 season, but that's a big if. He is mulling retirement, and the Dolphins are operating as if he won't be back. So, considering the concussion and injury history of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Miami should be focused on finding Armstead's heir apparent. Plus, this team ranked 28th in pass block win rate last season (55.7%), so it needs upgrading anyway.

Yes, Campbell's arm length comes into question. He measured 32⅝ inches at the combine, which isn't ideal for an NFL offensive tackle. But plenty of tackles start their careers at guard, and Campbell's great footwork points to a successful career despite the length limitations.

If he can be a Zach Martin lite guard in the NFL then sure, take him at #13. But if he's a good to very good guard, I would pass.

I'm not one to say guards don't matter, they do. Trenches matter. Just don't see the value taking one in the 1st unless he's a damn surefire day 1 and get instantly rewarded with probowl play at OG.
In a perfect world, you nab one in day 2.

My only concern about Campbell at guard is his height at 6'6". Not impossible to play guard at 6'6, as others have, but to me inside OL it's crucial to get lower than the defender and have proper leverage off the snap. Arm length is mitigated a bit inside.

I don’t care for tall OGs either.

i share the concern about him being too tall to play guard. same for pat paul. but interestingly mekhi becton, who is 6'7 was finally moved from LT to guard, and reinvented himself at that position, and was pretty darn good and just landed a nice contract. so it is possible.

i don't love the idea of drafting a first round guard either, but we are in a not great spot still w the OL. we also have alot of other positional needs. and the last good guard we had, we didnt want to pay market value for when he was up for contract. so i dunno what to tell you. it is somewhat fatiguing to think about at this point that we still have real issues on the OL. and that aint our only problem

He has 3 QBs in the top 10 which pushed some guys out. Thought that was interesting. Ward to Tennessee at 1, Shedeur to NYG at 3, and…………Jaxson Dart to the Saints at 9 overall.

Campbell and Membou are the only OL I’d draft at 13. Don’t see any way Membou makes it but Campbell would be really interesting as an immediate starting guard and a potential long term tackle. I think he’s got a high floor as an NFL guard though.

I'd take him without another thought... He probably isn't a Tackle, but there is enough "maybe he is" to justify drafting him to play Guard immediately, while keeping a long-term Tackle possibility later.
Agree but we do we need a corner bad too. Does it not feel like we can tap CB in round 1 and then look to trenches in our multiple round 2-5 picks? It's a matter of where the steepest drop off is at our positions of need and just the flat out grade on our round 1 prospects. If Johnson the CB is higher rated than this tackle and we feel we can get guard help later, would be hard to turn down. Of course I have no idea how we feel about the CB's available in the later rounds it just seems if you want a long term stud answer at that position you need to go high, you don't find those guys as much in the 3-5 rounds where there should still be some quality trench guys on both sides of the ball.
