Dan (Miami): Do you project Jason Allen as a good FS in the NFL? What do you make of the Fins draft overall?

Mel Kiper: (1:40 PM ET ) Average draft. Allen was a good pick with Whitner off the board. Hagan is okay in th third but needs to get more consistent and Joe Toledo can develop at OT after moving from TE, and getting Aromashodu late was nice. Not overwhelming but okay considering the picks they had.

Considering you got Culpepper with your 2nd I would say it was an above avg draft. I think he's right about Allen-- def a good pick with Whitner off the board. The Bills not only screwed themselves by picking Whitner but they screwed you too.

I thought it was a good draft, B or B-. I personally think Allen (if healthy and he is) is better than Whitner, and he would have gone before him (good thing he didn't). Hagan is a good pick in the 3rd. Since we only had two picks in the 1st day, I can see why he would consider it average. So I give it a B or B- based on the players we got with the picks we had.

I agree. I can't wait for next year when we have ALL our draft picks! Saban and Mueller will be awesome with a full complement of draft picks and no huge holes to fill.

How did the Bills screw us by picking Whitner?? Allen is better than Whitner!!

good point. yeah we prolly get about a B+ or B on the draft considering with the picks we have.

I agree with the Kipe we had average draft C

A C would infer that half of the picks were crap or simply the wrong choices. Can you point out which picks were blunders?

I think that alot of you underestimate the quality of the first 2 picks. If Allen can run a sub 4.5 with "hip questions", that makes me ask who is asking the questions afterall? Also remember what you all say about Hagan. I read the bit that Boomer wrote on some of the ASU star's actual #s (after his own scepticism and was turned around) and it almost prooves everyone doubts about him wrong. He could be a steal in the 3rd. After that, if 2 of the last 4 start 2 years down the road, than my grade of a B to B- will stand....without counting Pepper or Manny or Cleo. And yes, I do know that it's easy to evaluate now for noone can be proven wrong (except maybe the Bills.)

Just because there are no projected holes doesn't mean there won't be holes. Must remember Murphy's Law of football.

Mel is missing the boat here. No mention of the Rodrique Wright bargain, plus he seems to have backpeddled on Hagan, a guy he had rated as the #1 WR for awhile.

Mel is totally in love with Donte Whitner....WHY?, I don't know. He was not worth moving up a great deal just to get him (like the Bills did). It seems like Mel has an axe to grind with any team that does not pick the way he thinks they should.

How in the world does Hagan become more consistent than he was in college? Establish a 100% completion percentage vs. the 90% that he had in college?? I mean really that statement is a reach to say the least. He didn't do well during the senior bowl (or whatever senior game he was invited to) but he was playing with a QB that he had previously never caught a pass from. He's a route runner and a damn good one. He needs to work with his QB to learn his routes and set rhythm. He can be a starter in this league and at the #3 WR spot that is a solid acquisition for Miami.

This is garbage...last night on ESPN, Kiper gave Denver a B+ because "you cannot grade their draft without factoring in the Javon Walker deal"...That is funny, since I rarely see Miami getting high marks for using a second rounder on Daunte.

So how did Kiper rate the Chargers draft a few days after they got the bust of all time? You can't grade a draft until the picks play at the next level. What looks good on paper isn't worth the paper it's written on.
