Kyle Pitts

I think Pitts is the most underrated best pick we could have in the first round . TE as a positions translates pretty well to the Pro’s . I also believe many of the reasons good TE’s do fail is related to offensive scheming, QB preference and ability to add a usable amount of blocking to their game.

I think there are 3 huge factors in this realization

1. Given Tua’s strengths in the RPO/bootleg, underneath routes to someone with Pitts abilities to create separation would be a god send for progression and production for Tua .

2. Kyle Pitts has the most freakish athletic ability potentially ever seen by a TE, his body control, ability to make catches with his hands and win one on one matchups with anyone is unmatched by any TE prospect that I can think of. This may allow Tua to open up the deep throws , we all know he is capable.

3. If we nab our star WR, Kyle Pitts would completely stretch the field , occupy safeties and open up one on one match ups for a guy like chase/smith to be able to work or vice versa ( pick your poison) . Also think more deep throws here

I think it is very reasonable to use a 2022 2nd round pick to move up to grab Pitts after selecting chase/smith or potentially trading back and using that ammo to grab say a smith/chase, Pitts, Humphries .

As for RB , i think you take Williams in the 2nd and never look back .
If Miami somehow come out with smith and pitts in the first round , that would be an A+ draft.

I completely agree, but the only way we do that is if

1. We trade down to 6 or 8 and use that ammo + a 2022 2nd round or 3rd round pick to move up from 18 to 10 to grab him
2. We use 2022 draft capital to move up
3. We package Mike Gesicki or someone else to move up

All of this to me is worth it for everything mentioned in this thread

I am intrigued by the prospect of running 2 te sets from a core of Gesicki, Shaheen, Smythe, and Pitts. Could potentially add some much needed unpredictability in our playcalling, and help us get those somewhat elusive 1st downs.

I'm not letting him get past us, don't care if we have Gesicki, Pitts is going to be a true superstar in the NFL. That was an extremely cowardly intentional helmet to helmet on him by the Georgia guy, that had it's intended effect of taking Pitts out of the game. Thankfully the good guys still won, it probably would have been even easier had Pitts been on the field for the 2nd half. Could you imagine Tua throwing to this guy,, he's just not coverable at the College level even on double teams. That's why I would not let another team take him, I would use Houston's pick if I had to and then circle back to a WR like Waddle, Smith or Chase with our 2nd pick, got to believe at least one will be there, maybe not but I would prioritise Pitts because he is truly special.

On Trask, it's a weird one, everyone knows the story that he was a back up in High to the Miami QB (King ?), he was a back up in his first three years at the Gators who were the only team to offer him a scholarship. When he took over from Franks after he went down, and won the game, I think against Kentucky. Got the starting job for the rest of the season as Franks was out, I thought, he's ok but the team's weak link and never in a month of Sundays going to play at the NFL level, I fully expected Emory Jones to take over pretty quickly. But then he seemed to grow into it and Mullen worked his magic, by the end of last season, I thought the Kid was actually draftable maybe in the 6th or 7th round. This year though he's progressed again, you are looking at Heisman numbers with him and he's playing like someone who will get drafted in the early to mid rounds. It's incredible the progress he's made. I still think he's a little too unathletic for the modern game, but you can't deny his ability to stand in the pocket and deliver over and over again. I think he would be a good fit for a lot of teams, especially those with aging QBs who have a couple of years left and need someone to develop.
If pitts is the unicorn then he should be the pick but I doubt Grier has the vision or the evaluation skills to understand this. I would be shocked if we draft him at 3

Gronkowski was drafted at #42 in 2010. Miami took Jared Odrick at #28 in round one and Koa Misi at #40 in round two. Miami had Anthony Fasano at tight end in 2009, who had two touchdowns. Gronk had ten in his rookie year. Did the Dolphins really need Koa Misi? Did they really even need Jared Odrick? If Gronkowski were drafted at #28 that year, would anybody be saying it was way too early now? Even then he would have been the second tight end taken (Germain Gresham at 21) And yes, I’m saying Pitts could be just as good as Gronkowski. Misi, Odrick, Gronkowski… please stop passing on playmakers.

Problem is, Pitts is undersized. Pitts is listed 6-6 246.
TE should be 6-5 255 or 6-6 265.

I wonder who is left on the staff from those days :ponder::shrug:

He was playing split out wide a lot in college. A WR/TE hybrid basically. A good NFL strength and conditioning program plus professional nutritionist will have him bulked up in a year.
