In the Packers game, Miller took a hand off, was hit at the LOS. He lost balance and stumbled backwards. He regained balance, got smashed and ended up losing 9 yards on the play.

It was the first time I've seen this type of play happen.

Can someone explain the forward progress rule? What should Lamar have done? Is it up to the refs to blow up the play?

Cheers.

I think it was because he wasn't wrapped up and therefore not considered tackled.because he bounced back , ran around and tried to gain more yards he essentially kept the play alive

It was unfortunate. His effort cost us this time. Can't really blame him for trying although it was a weird play.

that's what i was saying as it happened. ball carriers so rarely do that. i think they fear a garo yepremian moment (besides being coached never to do that, probably).

yeah he was never wrapped up enough and once he regained his balance you are screwed...situational awareness was not there...dumb damn play by miller...go to ground live for another play...it's the pros not freaking pop warner

basically set up the int 2 plays later

You want your running back to have situational awareness when the QB doesn't?? Set up the int? The stare down set up the INT.
Hard for a rb to just go down, I don't blame Miller on that play, just an unlucky play

That's not a unlucky play, never should a RB run 10 yards backwards and then expect to make a play. Just go down.

He was thrown backwards. A rb is taught to fight for extra yardage. Yes it would have been great if he rolled right and threw the ball away, there may have been a lineman down field and resulted in a penalty.
You are asking too much of a rb thrown backwards to remember "oh ya my forward progress, I better not regain fwd progress"

Yeah, Miller should of just fallen to the ground if anything.

Because he re-gained balance and attempted a 'football move' he was considered live 9 yards back.

If he would of stumbled and fallen to the ground 9 yards back I believe they would of called him down at the LOS or his farthest point forward.

As for the Tannehill interception. Basically every INT I have seen from the kid so far this year has been a complete stare down play or a horribly thrown pass. I have yet to see a Tannehill INT in which I said..."Wow, that was a great defensive play by the corner".

Yes, we can argue that Hartline needs to fight for the ball, etc. But the kid needs to look off corners and safetys. 3rd year in and he is making college ball mistakes.

He shoulda thrown the ball away.

I think by that time we had blockers down field (OL) and would of been called for Ineligible Receiver Downfield.

if the rb throws it there you probably get banged for an illegal lineman down field...cause it was a run play and they were run blocking...he has to eat it...just not 10 yards deep...go down...you aren't barry sanders

Really?
I could have sworn that Sturgis kickoff to start the game set up Tannehill's INT.
