It's only two games, and he is a rookie but, Landry is not getting it done as a returner. The muffed kick was bad, and he has made a couple of bad decisions. So far, he has averaged 22.6 on kicks and 7.8 on punts, ads ranked #74 of 75 of all returners.

I'm hoping we sign Le Michael James t take over. Last year, he was good in averaging 10.9 on punts and 26.8 on kicks.

On a special teams bright side, Trusnik, Thomas, Freeney, and Dakwa have played well.

Guess Williams now gets a shot?

If we sign James, means Darkwa gets cut/kicked down to PS.

Landry is actually at 6.2 yards per return on punts. The Buffalo game was bad but you have to give credit to the Bills. Their special teams were way better than ours. Landry averaged 8 yards per return with a long of 16 against the Pats and he averaged 28 yards per return on kickoffs against the Pats. Against the Bills those numbers were 3.5 and 19 respectively.

He might be pressing a little, trying to make a big play. He needs to understand that a fair catch every now and then is not a bad thing...be a little more selective on which punts to return. 2 games is not enough to go on IMO. You guys are too impatient. Just like you crowned Thigpen after he returned a punt for a TD against Houston his first year and completely ignored the number of punts he let fall to the ground and bounce for 10 or 20 yards losing all that field position. Let Landry get some experience and see where he's at after game 6. If there's no improvement by then you start looking elsewhere.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I heard we were talking to L. James. Seems like a good move.

Jackson reported that there is mutual interest, and James will decide after this weekend. He would be a welcome addition. If not, I would consider bringing Thigpen back.

I still like Landry as a punt returner. The muff was obviously horrible but I think he'll learn and improve from that. What I hated about Thigpen is he seemed uneasy with the catching the ball part, you could almost sense that he was relieved when the ball was just out of bounds and he didn't have to make the catch. Landry is the opposite, he tries to catch almost everything. I think somebody like Thigpen would wither under the pressure and I would not want to trust him back there if something huge was on the line and dependent on him making a good decision. In my opinion Landry will at least make the correct decision.

How's Landry doing as a wideout? Isn't he supposed to be a playmaker?

Eh....

I think the issues are clear in the Pats game as well.

He is very indecisive not only in his runs, but when to field punts.

Pats game he let 1 or 2 punts bounce and roll around instead of a fair catch. He tends to over run some punts and twist-to-catch when he does over run.

Honestly,

From the 'eye' test he just looks uncomfortable at PR.

KR he looks fine.

Rookie, two games in.

Give it time.

Bit hard to make plays when you can't crack the top 3 roster from Wallace/Hartline/Gibson

he's a rookie man give it time. even still, 5 rec. for 49 yards last week isn't bad at all for your second game in the NFL. for comparison the 7th overall pick Mike Evans had 4 rec. for 52 yards last night -- his highest game this year.

Not important but, he had 2 punt returns vs Pats for 24 yards, and 2 for 7 yards vs Buff, which is 7,8. He also has 4 fair catches. I do not like him as a returner, and thought the same in preseason, other than maybe punts.

I love this place. :chuckle:

2 games into the season, and we all know what's what.

I've been over him at PR since the preseason. I don't know about you guys but I like my PR/KR to be quick and shifty with the ability to make people miss; Landry isn't that. Keep him at WR to reduce his risk of being injured.

Never understood why the team never drafts, or pickup in FA, speedsters like Bobby Rainey, Trindon Holliday, Dri Archer, Knile Davis, etc.
